Along with many localities across the country, Can Tho City is accelerating solutions to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025. Dai Doan Ket Newspaper reporter had an interview with Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City Nguyen Trung Nhan.

Reporter: Sir, how has the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area been carried out recently?

Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan: After reviewing, the city has approved a list of households eligible for financial support to build and repair temporary and dilapidated houses in the area with a total of 531 households. Funding to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households, using the 5% savings of the city's regular state budget allocated to districts and towns to ensure implementation. In addition, the City's Fund for the Poor, socialization and family contributions will be a source of reserve funds when there are any problems. Funding to support the construction of new or repair of houses for people with revolutionary contributions is implemented according to Decision No. 21 dated November 22, 2024 of the Prime Minister on the level of support for the construction of new or renovation and repair of houses for people with revolutionary contributions, relatives of martyrs and the allocation rate of support capital from the central budget, the rate of counterpart support capital from the local budget for the period 2023 - 2025. According to the reported data up to March 11, the city has deployed 301/531 houses (reaching a rate of 56.7%).

In the process of implementing this program, what are the advantages and difficulties of Can Tho City, sir?

According to the plan, Can Tho City will complete the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses before April 30, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification and the 15th Congress of the Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term.

Implementing the direction of the Central Steering Committee on eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, with the attention of the Steering Committees at all levels, the city has resolutely implemented and achieved many encouraging results. In addition, the participation of the entire political system, the consensus and support of all classes of people, and business organizations have created a combined strength, arousing the spirit of mutual love, mutual assistance, and mutual support, maintaining the solidarity and unity among the people.

However, in the process of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the locality, some difficulties and problems have also arisen. That is, in addition to poor and near-poor households lacking housing criteria, in reality there are many households with difficult circumstances and lacking housing but not poor or near-poor households.

Some families of people with revolutionary contributions enjoy policies according to the Prime Minister's Decisions but are not eligible to build and repair houses because they are not eligible as prescribed in Decree 131 dated December 30, 2021 of the Government detailing and implementing measures for the Ordinance on preferential treatment for people with revolutionary contributions.

How do you evaluate the role of grassroots Front cadres in the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses?

Leaders of the Fatherland Front at all levels and its member organizations have actively participated in directing and implementing the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area. In particular, the Fatherland Front at the grassroots level plays a key role, coordinating with local authorities in identifying and verifying beneficiaries, supervising the implementation process and mobilizing additional resources for the implementation process to achieve the best results.

The goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the city has been clearly defined in the direction of the Head of the City Steering Committee, which must be completed by April 30, 2025. That is the responsibility and an extremely important goal of Can Tho City. The Front staff must be determined and actively participate in the assigned tasks in the Steering Committee to best fulfill their responsibilities in order to achieve the set goals, make achievements to welcome the Party Congresses at all levels, and major holidays in 2025.

Thank you very much!
