The establishment of runners clubs with a large number of members has contributed to spreading and promoting the vibrant development of the athletics movement in the province, thereby creating large-scale and attractive tournaments... as a premise for developing sports tourism.
With the advantage of being an easily accessible sport, not requiring much investment, suitable for many subjects, the running movement began to develop strongly, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, people with the same interests formed small groups, practiced together, then connected, encouraged friends and relatives to join, and developed more members. Not stopping there, with the desire for the group to operate in a disciplined manner, and be guided to practice properly in terms of expertise and technique, the groups have built charters to establish and launch clubs.

Names such as Dak Lak Runners Club, Buon Ma Thuot Runners, Cu M'gar Runners, Buon Ho Runners, Nam Ban Me Runners, HRU Branch (Hanoi Law University Branch in Dak Lak) Runners, Turtle Runners, 47 Runners... were born one after another with the number of members participating in activities at each club ranging from several hundred to thousands of members.
Along with that, the presence and participation of famous names who have achieved many achievements in national-scale athletics competitions, or who come from the Dak Lak athletics team such as: Hoang Van Hon, Tran Minh Tuyen, Nguyen Van Huy, Nguyen Thi Kim Anh... also contributed to spreading the running movement in the province. It is known that in addition to the clubs established by geographical area, district, city, there are also many running clubs and groups whose members are family members, in agencies, or have the same profession...
The strong development of this sport in the province has led to the need for athletics playgrounds and tournaments for people to have the opportunity to exchange and share experiences. Therefore, in addition to clubs, teams, and groups regularly organizing small-scale tournaments for members to exchange, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and localities continuously organize large-scale tournaments, attracting a large number of athletes to participate. One example is the provincial athletics tournament held in March every year.
In 2025, the tournament recorded a record number of participants with nearly 1,000 athletes, an increase of more than 500 athletes compared to the previous season. Or the 2025 Buon Ho Marathon also attracted 800 athletes to participate. In the near future, athletes will have the opportunity to reunite at the Lak Run (expected in June 2025), then the Dak Lak Marathon is expected to be held at the end of the year.

Athletics competitions, although of a grassroots nature, are organized very professionally and systematically, with many different distances, from 5 km - 42 km, which is a "push", a motivation for runners to strive and overcome themselves. Many runners, when starting to train, only participate in distances of 5 - 10 km, but in the following seasons, they have run 21 km, even completing a full marathon distance of 42 km with much improved results.
As for experts and athletics coaches, the tournaments that take place regularly and the large number of athletes participating are opportunities for them to search for and discover athletes, supplement the provincial athletics team, organize training, and help Dak Lak high-performance sports "hunt" for medals in domestic tournaments.
