At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong affirmed that, as a member of the IPU since 1979, the Vietnamese National Assembly has always been proactive and actively and responsibly participated in IPU activities; successfully hosted a number of major IPU events such as the 132nd IPU Assembly (2015 in Hanoi), the Asia-Pacific Regional Symposium on Climate Change and Sustainable Development Goals (May 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City), the Conference on the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Sustainable Development Goals (December 2018 in Da Nang), and most recently, the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Hanoi (September 2023).
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong said that the world is currently facing many unpredictable changes. In that context, Vietnam highly appreciates the important role and position of the IPU in promoting dialogue and cooperation, seeking solutions to build peace, and enhancing compliance with international law, especially the United Nations Charter, to contribute to building sustainable peace.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly always considers participating in IPU activities an important task in the National Assembly's multilateral parliamentary diplomacy activities, aiming to contribute to discussing and finding solutions to current urgent global issues with member parliaments, towards achieving the IPU's common goals of peace, democracy and prosperity.
The Head of the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation requested the IPU President to pay attention to promoting and strengthening the connection between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the activities of the IPU as well as other relevant multilateral mechanisms, thereby helping the Vietnamese National Assembly integrate more deeply with the professional activities of international organizations at the regional and global scale; helping Vietnamese National Assembly Deputies connect, enhance cooperation and exchange, learn from experiences in all areas of the National Assembly's activities; and support the Vietnamese National Assembly to host a number of important IPU events, especially the World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments/Parliaments.
For her part, IPU President Tulia Ackson highly appreciated Vietnam's active participation in the IPU, especially the successful hosting of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians. The IPU President also hoped that the two sides would continue to closely coordinate in the upcoming IPU events, contributing to improving the effectiveness of parliamentary activities.
