In order to propagate and raise legal awareness on preventing and combating child marriage and incestuous marriage in mountainous areas and ethnic minority areas, recently, the Youth Union of Lao Cai Province's Agencies and Enterprises has coordinated with a number of units to organize propaganda through mock trials at schools.

The 2024 mock trial with the theme "Prevention and control of child marriage and incestuous marriage" was organized by the Provincial Agencies - Enterprises Bloc Youth Union in coordination with agencies and units at Tung Chung Pho Primary and Secondary School (Muong Khuong District) with the participation of more than 400 students. The trial was staged by the Provincial People's Court Youth Union, the Provincial People's Procuracy Youth Union, the Department of Justice Youth Union and the Muong Khuong District People's Court, simulating a criminal trial with full procedural steps. The content of the case was dramatized to suit the age of students.

The trial was about a subject who had a relationship with a 9th grade female student who was under the age of marriage and had sexual intercourse. The subject and the 9th grade female student were allowed to get married by 2 families but they waited until they were old enough to register. The village chief found out and, after failing to persuade them, reported it to the authorities. The subject confessed to his illegal acts and was prosecuted for having sexual intercourse with a person aged 13 to 16. According to the provisions of the Penal Code, the subject was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison.

The trial attracted many students to follow, from which they learned lessons for themselves. After the trial, the Provincial Agencies - Enterprises Bloc also organized an exchange with questions surrounding the case that had just been tried in the mock trial to further consolidate students' legal knowledge.

Student Then Thi Van said: Through the trial, I have understood some legal regulations on the issues of early marriage and incestuous marriage, from which I have drawn lessons for myself and actively promoted them in my family, village and hamlet where I live.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien Luong, Judge of Muong Khuong District People's Court, said: Although the trial is hypothetical, it follows the correct criminal procedure procedures. We also pay attention to integrating and conveying propaganda messages on preventing and combating child marriage and incestuous marriage appropriate to the age of students.

Mr. Tran Van Quan, Secretary of the Youth Union of the Provincial Agencies and Enterprises, said: Through the court sessions, we contribute to equipping people with legal knowledge, changing habits, and raising awareness of people and students in mountainous areas and ethnic minority areas about preventing and combating child marriage and incestuous marriage. The mock court sessions attracted thousands of people and students to participate, affirming the effectiveness of legal propaganda through this form.
