Promoting the role of ethnic minority party members

Over the past years, the ethnic minority party members in the province have made many positive contributions to the New Rural Development Program, and have been trusted and highly appreciated by local authorities and people.

Party Cell Secretary, Head of Lo Ma Cooc village (Quang Son commune, Hai Ha district) propagates and mobilizes people to eliminate the bad custom of child marriage.

Lo Ma Cooc village (Quang Son commune, Hai Ha district) has 91% of the population being Dao. Due to limited awareness of some people, early marriage still occurs, causing many consequences to social life, reducing the quality of population and the quality of the race.

As Party Cell Secretary and Village Chief, in 2023, Mr. Phang A Nhi built a skillful mass mobilization model "Our village says no to child marriage"; directed the branches, youth unions, cadres, and party members in the village to strengthen propaganda and dissemination to members, union members, and people about the harmful effects and impacts of child marriage and incestuous marriage.

To improve the effectiveness of propaganda, the Party cell has classified each object and age group; implemented the motto "slow and steady wins the race"; propagated in many forms, anytime, anywhere, regularly and continuously; coordinated with local secondary schools to grasp the learning situation of students.

Mr. Nhi said: At the end of 2024, after receiving information about a student at risk of early marriage, the Party cell coordinated with the school to meet with the student to understand the situation, then met with the student's father, mother, and grandmother to propagate and mobilize. As a result, the family agreed to let their child finish high school. The student himself also had good awareness, wanting to continue studying and not get married early.

Mr. Duong Trung Nam, Deputy Secretary of the Quang Son Commune Party Committee, assessed: The model "Our village says no to child marriage" has been effective. People's awareness, especially among young people, about child marriage has had many positive changes; grandparents, parents have become more responsible, not allowing their children to get married early and have incestuous marriages. In 2025, the Commune Party Committee will replicate the model to the remaining villages to completely eliminate child marriage and incestuous marriages in the commune.

Party member Dang Xuan Thanh (Khe Phuong village, Ky Thuong commune, Ha Long city) raises local chickens to generate extra income.

Despite his rare age, Party member Dang Xuan Thanh, Dao ethnic group (Khe Phuong village, Ky Thuong commune, Ha Long city) still sets a shining example in labor, production, building new rural areas, cultural life in residential areas...

Taking advantage of the highland commune with a large area of forestry land, he actively promoted and mobilized people to plant forests to create sustainable livelihoods. When the province had a policy of planting large timber forests, he pioneered the conversion of 4 hectares of his family's acacia to cinnamon trees so that people would trust and follow. To date, the whole village has planted 320 hectares of forest (including 100 hectares of cinnamon). Mr. Thanh also mobilized people to develop livestock and poultry farming under the forest canopy to generate additional income. His family alone raises 2 batches of chickens each year with a total of more than 1,000 chickens, deducting expenses, earning a profit of more than 80 million VND.

From a particularly difficult village in an ethnic minority area, Khe Phuong now has no poor or near-poor households, 80% of households are well-off or rich.

Implementing the New Rural Development Program, in the province, there have been many examples of ethnic minority party members who have always been pioneers and exemplary leaders in economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, striving to enrich their families and hometowns; many examples of voluntary donation of land, working days, and assets on land to expand roads, build public works, community cultural houses, schools, etc., thereby multiplying widespread emulation movements; many ethnic minority party members have been commended and rewarded by local Party committees and authorities, and have been elected by the people to hold key positions in the locality, becoming political cores at the grassroots level.
