(Dan Tri) - Turning to students on the occasion of Teachers' Day, November 20, many educational administrators are taking action for the mission of the school and the teacher, creating a meaningful movement with widespread influence.
Teachers' Day November 20 is an occasion for parents, students and the whole society to express gratitude and appreciation to teachers and is also a day for teachers to reflect on their chosen profession.
However, recently, the holiday of November 20 has been viewed in a somewhat one-sided and distorted way as a day of… gifts; a day for parents and students to give gifts to teachers and schools. This leads to unnecessary pressure on parents, and the grateful party also feels heavy-hearted.

This November 20th season, a series of open letters "not accepting flowers or gifts on November 20th" or requests to "exchange gifts" for students from many educational institutions and schools have created a new positive breeze, returning the meaning of November 20th: Teachers aim to care for students, realizing their mission and role.

Reminding teachers of their sacred mission
Educator Gian Tu Trung, Director of the IRED Institute of Education, author of the book "Liberal Pedagogy - The World, Vietnam and Me" said that for a long time, November 20 has become a very familiar day in the minds of Vietnamese people, many people even consider it a special Tet holiday: "Tet for Teachers".
"Many people take it for granted that November 20 is a day to honor teachers, and many teachers also happily celebrate it, forgetting that this day is not only to honor teachers but also to remind teachers of their sacred mission.

It is also a day to remind teachers of the journey of struggle that they have gone through, are going through, and will continue to go through to win the right to teach, the freedom to carry out that sacred mission," said Mr. Gian Tu Trung.
According to Mr. Trung, the respect and honor of society on November 20th is on one hand a joy for those who work in the teaching profession, but on the other hand, it makes conscientious teachers feel full of pressure and responsibility. Because they understand that such respect comes with stricter requirements, especially recently when the teaching profession has been viewed with disrespect by some people.
November 20th has a greater significance as it is a day for those working in the teaching profession to rethink and re-perceive their work and profession. As well as each teacher redefines the role and mission of the profession to learners and society in a new context, a new era.

In particular, according to Mr. Gian Tu Trung, November 20 is a day for teachers to reflect on their profession, but responsible teachers will certainly constantly worry every day about what their work and career can bring to students, to the picture of the teaching profession and to the entire education system.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, a former lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, shared that more than 20 years ago, when she stayed at the school to become a lecturer at the age of 22, she assumed the image of a teacher... strict and strict with curly hair, a serious face, even frowning.
After a long teaching career, Ms. Huyen now looks at the teacher's mission very simply: "The teacher's mission is to make every moment that students are with us the most meaningful moments in their lives."
When training teachers in remote areas, Ms. Huyen saw the pain of many managers and teachers in keeping children in school. They worried that the children would fall into a vicious cycle of dropping out of school, getting married, having children, and poverty.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, a teacher's mission is to create meaningful moments for students (Photo: Hoai Nam).
Ms. Huyen told the teachers, don't think about these things, what teachers can do is focus on the present moment. Today, when the students are at school with them, what can teachers do to make that day meaningful for them?
Realizing the mission of schools and teachers
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen's view on the mission of a teacher is also the perspective and viewpoint of many teachers and educational administrators that is being spread on the occasion of November 20 with open letters "requesting gifts" from many schools.
These are hundreds of health insurance cards given to disadvantaged students at Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School, District 6, Ho Chi Minh City; notebooks and milk as rewards for students participating in useful activities at Phan Van Tri Primary School, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City; or ideas contributing to education at Kindergarten 14, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City...

Ms. Huynh Thi Phuong Thao, Principal of Kindergarten 14, Tan Binh District, who wrote an open letter refusing to receive flowers and gifts on November 20, asking to exchange flowers and gifts for suggestions to improve teaching quality from parents, shared: "This is the most meaningful, important, and valuable gift for the school and for each teacher."
On November 20th, many schools and teachers do not just stop at contemplating their careers, but they also take action to fulfill their mission, creating meaningful things for students.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, shared that Vietnamese Teachers' Day has become a festival to honor teachers, those who have contributed so much effort, intelligence and enthusiasm to the cause of education.
That honor shows the trust and love of students, parents and the whole society for teachers.
But for teachers, Mr. Hieu emphasized that this is an opportunity for each person to have a deeper understanding of their profession in order to "respect and love their profession". From there, each teacher will constantly improve their professional capacity and preserve the qualities and ethics of a teacher.

"A teacher not only teaches students with books, knowledge, and heart, but also teaches with his own life and lifestyle.
"Arousing emotions, spreading the flame of love, awakening potential, forming and developing qualities and abilities, and bringing good life values to students, no machine can do it, only teachers can do it," said Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu.
Good things always have an impact. Originating from Teachers' Day, we believe that this mission will spread, continuing to expand the movement of caring for students with all our hearts and actions of those who have the "cultivating people" vocation.
