British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently held a phone conversation to exchange views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as the upcoming summit of European leaders in London, Ukrinform news agency reported on March 1.

According to a statement from the British government, Prime Minister Starmer informed President Erdoğan about his recent visit to the United States and stressed the importance of international cooperation in supporting European security.

“Discussing the conflict in Ukraine, Prime Minister Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary to deter Russia’s extraordinary military campaign,” the statement said.

Following the recent row at the White House between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his US counterpart Donald Trump, Prime Minister Starmer spoke to both leaders, expressing Britain's steadfast support for Ukraine.

Earlier, the British Prime Minister's Office announced that Mr. Starmer invited more than 10 European and European Union (EU) leaders to attend a summit on March 2 to discuss the Ukraine issue and regional security.

Prime Minister Starmer is expected to outline his goals at the summit.

Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on March 1 affirmed that he will make efforts to prevent division between the US, Ukraine and G7 countries after the recent controversy.

Speaking to reporters in Tokyo, Prime Minister Ishiba said, "The confrontation between Mr. Trump and Mr. Zelensky in the meeting in Washington on February 28 was quite an unexpected development," and affirmed that "Japan needs to do its utmost to prevent division between the US, Ukraine and the G7 countries."

“This is not a matter that should be ruled by emotions. We need to maintain compassion and patience in diplomacy to achieve peace,” Mr. Ishiba emphasized.

Earlier, the Japanese Foreign Minister said he was following the situation with deep concern about the possibility of achieving a just and lasting peace as soon as possible for Ukraine.

In particular, many countries have also voiced their support for Ukraine. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon reaffirmed Wellington's steadfast support for Kiev in its conflict with Russia, pointing out that New Zealand is defending a democratic and sovereign country, as well as international law.

On the same day, in an interview with NRK radio, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere announced that the government will soon ask parliament to increase economic support for Ukraine.

Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis stressed that US support in the conflict in Ukraine is necessary, although Europe still needs to upgrade its own defense infrastructure.
