Pham Van Mach: "The last 4 weeks before the world championship were really stressful"

At the World Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship held on November 9 in Korea, athlete Pham Van Mach won the championship. On the evening of November 10, from Korea, this athlete took time to talk with Dan Tri reporters.

Pham Van Mach's victory as world champion at the age of 47 was very surprising. What is his secret to persevering to achieve success at this age?

- My biggest secret is passion. From my passion for bodybuilding, I always pay attention to this subject. The attention here is eating and resting properly. I exercise regularly, that helps me maintain my form.

It seems that age does not affect your performance?

- It does have an impact. I personally feel that my health is not as good as when I was younger. But in return, at this age, I have more experience. I know how to correct mistakes and improve my own weaknesses when aiming for tournaments.

When I first came to the World Championships this year, I was a bit surprised to see that there were so many athletes from different countries, and they had made a lot of progress. They were well prepared and eager to show themselves, so they were all strong opponents.

But in the end he was still the winner. So how did he prepare to become world champion this year?

- Normally, the preparation period for a tournament is about 3 months. In the past 3 months, I have undergone a very strict training and nutrition regimen. In particular, the last 4 weeks were extremely difficult, I had to lose 13kg during that time.

Daily water intake also had to be significantly reduced, to help the muscles become drier and more defined. During the last week before the race, I could only drink half a liter of water a day. This is the period when athletes are extremely susceptible to depression.

How long do you think you will continue to compete at the top level and stay at the top of the world for how many more years?

- With the signs from myself, plus what I observe from my opponents, I predict that I can compete at the top level for a few more years. Of course, as long as I am still competing, I still have the ability to win the world number one position in my weight class (55kg).

So do you have any advice for young athletes, after your own success?

- I want to say that if you practice and compete in bodybuilding, you must do it for passion first. Then, you must update and learn knowledge and information about this subject.

In terms of expertise, each stage is different, because bodybuilding is a subject influenced by developments in science and technology, related to nutrition and training conditions.

In addition to training, nutrition is extremely important in bodybuilding. In addition, sleep is also an important factor. Young athletes who want to succeed must pay attention to these things, must persevere, very persevere.
