The model of raising hybrid fighting chickens for sale has been helping people in Khanh Tien commune (U Minh district, Ca Mau) get rich.
Raising commercial hybrid fighting chickens is one of the models in the Project "Strengthening community-based adaptation to climate change in coastal areas of Ca Mau province in the period of 2023-2025", implemented and managed by the Provincial Women's Union and the Women's Union of Khanh Tien commune, with funding from the World Bread Organization.
After more than 2 months of implementation, the model has brought practical results, helping people increase their income, develop their family economy, and opening up many prospects for replication in the locality.
The family of Mr. Mai Van Thoan, Hamlet 7, Khanh Tien Commune is one of 20 households implementing the model of raising hybrid fighting chickens for commercial purposes. The family was supported with 140 hybrid fighting chickens, 300 kg of feed, along with medicine and farming equipment. Thanks to the correct implementation of the trained techniques, Mr. Thoan took care of the chickens to develop well, with a high number of chickens.
Mr. Mai Van Thoan is excited to have successfully implemented the commercial hybrid fighting chicken farming model.
Mr. Thoan said: “I have raised chickens before, but this is the first time I have raised them most effectively. The chickens grow quickly, each currently weighs 1.7-1.8 kg. Recently, I selected and sold 20 chickens for 65,000 VND/kg, earning more than 2.3 million VND. If this flock of chickens is raised for 2 and a half months, each chicken will weigh 2 kg or more. If all are sold, after deducting expenses, I will probably make a profit of 7-9 million VND. I will maintain this model.”
Also a household raising crossbred fighting chickens for sale under the project, Ms. Tran Thi Hong, Hamlet 2, Khanh Tien Commune, said that because the feed is provided according to each stage of the chickens' development, and at the same time the chickens are released into the garden to find additional food, they grow quickly. In addition, thanks to the good application of professional guidance techniques such as: lighting, covering from the wind when the chickens are young, the chickens do not lose any weight, reaching more than 95%.
“I find this chicken farming model effective and suitable for my family’s conditions, so after selling this batch of chickens, I will leave about 20 chickens for breeding and expanding the model. After selling all of this batch of chickens, after deducting expenses, I will probably still have a profit of 6-7 million VND. I find the chicken farming model very suitable for expansion in the locality, especially for households with little land for production like my family,” Ms. Hong shared.
The model of raising commercial hybrid fighting chickens was implemented by the Provincial Women's Union and the Khanh Tien Commune Women's Union for 20 households. Each household was supported with 140 breeding chickens, 300 kg of feed, medicine and farming equipment, with a total value of more than 180 million VND, of which the household contributed 18 million VND. After more than 2 months of raising, the chickens weighed 1.5-1.8 kg/chicken. It is expected that after raising for about 2.5-3 months, they will be sold, weighing about more than 2 kg/chicken. Selling at a price of 65,000 VND/kg, the breeders will have a revenue of more than 18 million VND. After deducting the cost of support, each household will have a profit of 6-8 million VND.
Ms. Pham Mong Lanh, Vice President of the Women's Union of Khanh Tien Commune, said: “Most households have maintained their chicken flocks quite well, reaching more than 95%. This model is very suitable for the natural conditions in the locality, and is also suitable for poor, disadvantaged households with little land for production in the commune. Thanks to the project's support capital, as well as the effective chicken farming, people will have a good income after the model ends. After summarizing the model, the Association will continue to mobilize people to replicate it to increase income, develop the family economy, and actively contribute to poverty reduction and new rural construction in the locality."
