The Dao people in Ngoc Sang Traditional Medicine Cooperative, Tien Lam hamlet, Bac Phong commune, Cao Phong district, Hoa Binh province have a traditional traditional medicine making profession. Growing medicinal plants is a profession that helps households have food and property.
Turning traditional medicine into OCOP products
With the strength of traditional medicine, along with dedicated, loving and responsible members in maintaining and developing the traditional medicine profession of the Dao ethnic group, Ngoc Sang Traditional Medicine Cooperative, Tien Lam hamlet, Bac Phong commune, Cao Phong district, Hoa Binh province has raised the level of its products, creating practical economic efficiency; both preserving and developing the traditional profession and creating jobs for Dao ethnic women in the locality.

Talking to reporters, Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc, Director of Ngoc Sang Traditional Medicine Cooperative (HTX) said: "I am a Muong ethnic person. I married a Dao man and became the daughter-in-law of a Dao person. From what I learned at my husband's house and the Dao people, I know that traditional medicine is very good for treating diseases, especially bone and joint diseases and stomach diseases."

Ms. Ngoc also shared that in 2018, she started to dispense medicine herself and found that she loved this job. From the concern of how to not only preserve the traditional profession but also develop it to bring higher value, her family mobilized people in the village to join in establishing and developing the cooperative. Currently, the cooperative has 7 members. The members are all dedicated and responsible for maintaining and developing the traditional herbal medicine profession of the Dao ethnic group.

"With the advantage of abundant raw materials and some typical medicinal plants, the Cooperative has boldly expanded the market and developed a more professional medicine profession with products: Bone and joint massage balm, bone and joint drink balm, stomach pills... Currently, the Cooperative has 8 products, of which the main products are stomach balm and Dao people's bath leaf balm", Ms. Ngoc shared.

Linking and expanding the scale of growing areas
Since its inception, the Cooperative has cooperated with local people to purchase medicinal herbs. At the same time, it has expanded the raw material area by more than 1 hectare, planting precious medicinal herbs such as: Xạ đen, khôi nhung, turmeric, and thiên niên kien. The Cooperative determines that proactively sourcing raw materials will ensure safety and improve work efficiency. In addition, the Cooperative continues to mobilize and cooperate with local people to expand the scale of medicinal herb cultivation to create more jobs and help increase income for local workers.

To achieve the success of the cooperative, Ms. Ngoc and the members are always grateful to the Women's Union at all levels for supporting cooperative members to participate in training courses and skills training; providing free origin traceability stamps and being connected to participate in trade promotion fairs in the Northern region.
It is the participation in the fair that has helped the brand of Ngoc Sang Traditional Medicine Cooperative become more widely known. Each year, the Cooperative produces about 300 kg of extract and 2 tons of raw medicine.

The Cooperative's main channel for selling raw medicinal products is through trade fairs. Through these fairs, the Cooperative sells about 200kg of extract and 1 ton of raw medicinal products. The remaining quantity is sold directly at the factory or through online channels.
Speaking to reporters, Ms. Bui Thi Dung - President of the Women's Union of Bac Phong commune said: "Since its establishment, with the efforts and enthusiasm of its members, the cooperative has achieved meaningful results, bringing high economic value, creating jobs and stable income for its members and women members. Each member has an average income of 8 - 9 million VND/month".
In addition, the cooperative helps 20 local women have seasonal jobs, with an income of 5-6 million VND/person/month. With its efforts and achievements, Ngoc Sang Traditional Medicine Cooperative received a Certificate of Merit from the Hoa Binh Provincial Women's Union at the program "Recognizing excellent grassroots union officials and typical models in the community" in 2023.
