New rural areas in tune with the digital age

In recent years, the implementation of the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program in Hanoi has unleashed the potential and advantages of rural areas, increased people's income, promoted rural economic development, and contributed to the construction of new rural areas in depth, effectively and sustainably. Along with that, Hanoi is one of the localities actively promoting digital transformation in agriculture, contributing to the development trend in the digital age.

New countryside from new model

In recent years, in Thach That district, the OCOP Program has encouraged and supported production and business entities in rural areas. New models are increasingly developing, creating effective product values. In 2024, Thach That district will mobilize resources and disburse investment capital for projects to promote production development, transform crop and livestock structures, and shift labor structures. In the plan, Thach That district aims for each commune and town with potential and strengths in developing agricultural and rural tourism with the implementation of community tourism products, which will be associated with the formation of a chain of standard OCOP products to introduce to tourists.

It can be seen that the OCOP Program is considered a solution to solve the problem of increasing the value of typical products in localities, contributing to job creation and increasing income for people according to the National Target Program on New Rural Development in Thach That. The focus of the OCOP Program is to develop advantageous agricultural, non-agricultural and service products in each locality according to the value chain, with private and collective economic sectors playing the main role, implementing in the direction of developing internal resources and increasing value. Therefore, the OCOP Program is also considered a solid foundation for building New Rural Development in Thach That district in recent times.

In Thuong Tin district, in recent times, to concretize the direction of the Prime Minister and Hanoi city, the People's Committee of Thuong Tin district has focused on leading and directing the implementation of the OCOP Program, adding the task of directing and managing the implementation of the OCOP Program for the period 2021 - 2025; the goal is to have 150 potential products evaluated and classified; each commune has at least 2 potential products participating in the OCOP Program with 3 stars or more, focusing on the food group, craft village products...

After 6 years of implementation, the OCOP Program of Thuong Tin district has had a total of 179 recognized OCOP products, including 152 4-star products and 27 3-star products; 2 points for displaying, introducing and selling OCOP products have been established in Hong Van and Ha Hoi communes. The program has been contributing to promoting production and increasing income for people in Thuong Tin district. At the same time, it creates conditions for expanding and developing business for enterprises, cooperatives, craft village production facilities, promoting business startups in rural areas...

Thanh Tri is the first district of Hanoi recognized by the Prime Minister as meeting the advanced NTM standards. With this result, the district reached the finish line 2 years ahead of schedule. Along with many criteria that have been completed, agricultural products, especially OCOP products, have contributed to the economic achievements in the process of reaching the advanced NTM finish line of Thanh Tri district.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huy Toan - Vice Chairman of Thanh Tri District People's Committee, implementing the One Commune One Product Program, up to now, the whole district has 129 recognized products, of which 64 products have achieved 4 stars, 65 products have achieved 3 stars. In addition, the district has built 4 points to introduce and sell OCOP products.

Digital Age Agriculture

Digital transformation in agriculture is not only a matter of applying technology to create surplus value for the economy, but also a way to help farmers access and update new knowledge, open up new ways of thinking and new ways of doing things. Currently, Hanoi is one of the localities actively promoting digital transformation in agriculture. Many cooperatives and enterprises have widely applied digital technology, producing high-quality agricultural products, ensuring food safety and adapting to climate change.

Advanced technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, data management, IoT (internet of things), big data, drones are being applied in the production, processing and distribution of agricultural products. Thanks to smart devices, farmers can manage their farms conveniently and effectively. They can water, fertilize and monitor the growth of crops remotely, just by using smartphones…

At the event introducing OCOP products associated with the culture of the Southern provinces at the end of 2024, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Dinh Hoa said: Currently, Hanoi has 100% of communes meeting NTM standards, 188 communes meeting advanced NTM standards, and 76 communes meeting model NTM standards. At the district level, 100% of districts meet NTM standards.

Implementing the OCOP Program, from 2019 to present, the City has had 2,756 products evaluated and recognized. In 2024, the City will continue to evaluate and classify about 500 more products. In addition, Hanoi also has 1,350 craft villages, villages with occupations, of which 331 craft villages, traditional occupations and traditional craft villages are recognized by the City People's Committee; there are 1,090 active agricultural cooperatives; 1,695 farms; 149 production and consumption linkage chains; more than 164 high-tech application models, over 13,000 agricultural, forestry and fishery products have been granted traceability codes.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoa, to bring digital technology into the rural agricultural sector, Hanoi needs to continue to develop and aim to synchronize tools for digital transformation, digitization, data creation, standardization of agricultural land, crop, livestock, and aquatic product databases; connect and share national databases, industry and sector databases to serve the direction and administration of state agencies and production and business of people and enterprises. At the same time, promote trade promotion, support bringing Hanoi's key products and OCOP products to e-commerce platforms...
