On July 2, Mr. Huynh Quang Huy, Head of the Fisheries Department of Binh Thuan Province, informed that the locality is entering the peak of the Southern fish season, the main seafood exploitation season of the year. However, the current exploitation output is not as expected as many fishing trips of fishermen have failed.
According to some fishermen, in recent months, boats have rarely encountered large fish stocks and have mainly caught mackerel, anchovies, etc., which have low prices and low yields. While the cost of each trip to sea is very high and the value of exploitation is low, many fishermen have temporarily anchored their boats. In addition, due to the adverse effects of the weather, fishing and exploiting seafood has become even more difficult. According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Thuan province, the decline in marine aquatic resources is due to overexploitation over a long period of time and the degradation of the near-shore ecosystem.
To make the sea trips economically efficient, the Fisheries Department of Binh Thuan province encourages offshore fishing vessel owners to install a post-harvest seafood preservation system using Polyuethane (PU) foam powder, lining the fishing vessel's hold with stainless steel to reduce loss and sell seafood at a good price. In addition, ship owners should boldly use hydraulic winches, equip horizontal detectors, radars, and long-range communication devices to improve seafood catching capacity. The fisheries sector of Binh Thuan province also recommends that fishermen catch seafood according to the model of groups, teams united in production at sea, the model of "mother ship - daughter ship" to support each other in seafood exploitation; promote the implementation of fishing logistics to reduce costs and increase labor efficiency.
