Today, water flows in hydroelectric reservoirs remain very low.
Specifically, the water level of hydropower reservoirs in the Northern and North Central regions increased slightly compared to yesterday; the water level in the Southeast region fluctuated slightly, remaining low; the water level in the South Central Coast and Central Highlands regions decreased slightly, within the minimum water level range according to the operating procedures.

According to ATMT, the amount of water flowing into the reservoir is mainly to regulate water to ensure minimum flow, hydroelectric plants operate to generate electricity using the water flow, plants in the Northern and North Central regions generate electricity at a moderate level with low water column and capacity to ensure safety for the generator during operation, it is difficult to meet the electricity generation according to the reservoir operation process at this time.
Some lakes are close to dead water level: Thac Ba, Ban Ve, Thac Mo, Dong Nai 3. Specifically: Thac Ba Lake: 46.24/46 m (minimum regulation: 46.5 m); Ban Ve Lake: 157.06/155.0 m (minimum regulation: 169.7 to 174m); Thac Mo Lake: 199.63/198 m (minimum regulation: 202.5m to 203.2m); Dong Nai 3 Lake: 571.56/570 m (minimum regulation: 571.5m to 572.8m).
Meanwhile, some lakes have very low water levels: Son La, Hua Na. Specifically:
Low water flow causes many hydroelectric plants to only generate electricity at low water levels and capacity: Son La, Huoi Quang, Ban Chat, Thac Ba, Tuyen Quang, Hua Na, Trung Son, Thac Mo, Dong Nai 3.
Hydrological forecast, water flow to the lake in the next 24 hours will continue to decrease slightly.
Demand for electricity continues to rise
According to data updated on the morning of June 16 by EVN and the National Power System Control Center (A0), on June 15, the load of the entire power system increased compared to the previous day, reaching 832.2 million kWh. Of which, the North is estimated at about 384.6 million kWh, the Central region is about 78 million kWh, and the South is about 369 million kWh.
The national power system peak capacity (Pmax) reached 39,768.9 MW at 2:30 p.m. In the North, it was 17,892 MW (at 2:30 p.m.), in the Central region, it was 3,895 MW (at 4 p.m.), and in the South, it was 18,206 MW (at 1:30 p.m.).
By the end of June 15, 2023, the total output mobilized from hydropower was about 168.1 million kWh (of which the North mobilized 59.3 million kWh), down from June 14; coal-fired thermal power mobilized 463.4 million kWh (the North mobilized 281.5 million kWh); gas turbines mobilized 89 million kWh and did not have to mobilize oil-fired power sources.
Renewable energy connected to the grid mobilized over 70 million kWh, of which wind power was 25.1 million kWh.
According to EVN, as of June 15, 51 transitional renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 2,852 MW have submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for approval of temporary electricity prices.
Regarding the Northern coal-fired thermal power source, EVN said that the coal fuel source for production is guaranteed. Total long-term incidents: 2,100 MW; Total short-term incidents: 300 MW.
Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnam Electricity Group are continuously directing, urging, and finding all solutions to strengthen the operation of power sources, flexibly operate reservoirs in the context of water shortages in large hydroelectric reservoirs; urging thermal power plants to focus on prioritizing the handling of generator incidents; ensuring the supply of coal and gas for power generation; actively supplementing renewable energy sources for the system; strengthening the safe operation of the Central - Northern transmission system; continuing to implement the Prime Minister's directive on electricity saving...
Responding to VTC News , Mr. Tran Van Hoa, Deputy Director of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant, said that in recent days the weather has improved, the amount of water flowing in has changed but not much, the water flow reached 103m, while the minimum water level is 81.9m, so the power generation capacity is still low.
“We are continuing to monitor the amount of water flowing in and have regular reports sent to EVN Group to have a suitable electricity production plan,” said Mr. Hoa.
Along with ensuring electricity supply, the leaders of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant also required employees to thoroughly save electricity and cut off air conditioning in the headquarters area.
The office of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant staff also saves electricity thoroughly.
“For nearly a month now, all of our offices have been using natural light. During work, we use LED desk lamps and electric fans. When the weather is below 35 degrees Celsius, all leaders and employees are not allowed to use air conditioning. Electrical equipment such as water heaters, water heaters, etc. are turned off. Currently, the company is replacing them with available purified water bottles to save electricity. The lighting in public areas is minimized and the lighting system is automatically turned on and off,” said Mr. Hoa.
