Thanh Hoa City Power Company switched off all electrical equipment.
Earth Hour is launched annually on the last Saturday of March. This is the 16th year the Earth Hour campaign has been implemented in Vietnam in general and in Thanh Hoa province in particular. Earth Hour 2025 carries the message "Green Transition - Green Future". The program is launched with the desire to initiate a more widespread movement in the community, not simply calling on the whole population to save electricity, but also including activities related to sustainable energy production, increased use of renewable energy sources, and the use of energy-efficient products and equipment to improve energy efficiency in both economic and environmental aspects.
The streetlights in Lam Son Square and Phan Chu Trinh Street were switched off during the Earth Hour event.
In response to this program, the Provincial People's Committee issued a document assigning the Department of Industry and Trade to take the lead and coordinate with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Thanh Hoa Newspaper, Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station, the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities, Thanh Hoa Power Company and the Center for Industrial Promotion and Energy Saving to launch a communication campaign to call on agencies, units, businesses and all citizens to turn off lights and unnecessary electrical equipment from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday, March 22nd.
In response to the Earth Hour campaign, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on March 22nd, many buildings of agencies, organizations, and businesses in the province switched off all lights or turned off unnecessary electrical equipment. In Thanh Hoa City, some streets, parks, playgrounds, and shopping centers in the wards of Truong Thi, Ham Rong, Dong Huong, etc., also had their lights turned off.
On the streets, in addition to the streetlights, many agencies and businesses also switched off all LED lights, billboard lights, decorative lighting, and other unnecessary electrical equipment.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, owner of a souvenir shop on Tong Duy Tan Street, Lam Son Ward (Thanh Hoa City), said: “Through various communication channels and information disseminated by electricity sector officials and Lam Son Ward officials, my family learned about the 2025 Earth Hour campaign. Accordingly, my family and many other businesses on the same street have purchased candles and prepared some rechargeable lamps to participate in Earth Hour and turn off the lights from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Not only will we participate in Earth Hour, but my family will also implement the electricity saving measures instructed throughout the 365 days of the year to minimize electricity consumption.”
In response to the program, the Center for Industrial Promotion and Energy Saving, Thanh Hoa Power Company, coordinated the hanging of banners and slogans to encourage organizations and communities to join hands in supporting the program.
It is known that, right from the inception of the Earth Hour campaign, Thanh Hoa province has been one of the pioneering localities to respond to this movement, contributing to creating positive changes in people's awareness and actions regarding energy saving and environmental protection.
The Earth Hour campaign was launched not only to convey the message of saving electricity, conserving energy, and protecting the environment for one hour, but also to call on the community, businesses, and individuals to regularly use energy efficiently and effectively, making it a habit in their daily lives.
