After the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee sent a dispatch to the Ministry of Education and Training requesting recommendations on enrollment in grade 6 for the 2024-2025 school year and assigning the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to develop a project to convert the model of Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School to comply with the Education Law and regulations, many questions were raised about how this school with the "hottest" secondary school system in Ho Chi Minh City will convert its model?

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online , the principal of a high school in Ho Chi Minh City said that when reading the document sent by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to the Ministry of Education and Training, they saw that Ho Chi Minh City could change the model of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted in the direction that the junior high school block will follow an advanced - modern - internationally integrated model; the high school block will still be specialized.

Highly praising the junior high school block of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, this principal expressed his wish that Ho Chi Minh City would retain the junior high school level. Because this is the wish of many parents and students.

"Because for a long time, the secondary school system at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted has not taught in a specialized form, but has taught in the direction of comprehensively developing students' qualities and abilities," said the principal.

Ms. Thuy - a parent whose child is studying in grade 7 at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted - said: "My child is studying here, I see that the way students are taught at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted is not specialized, but the children learn lightly, participate in many activities and skills. Therefore, after hearing that the school is changing its model, it is necessary to separate the junior high school system from Tran Dai Nghia High School."

Discussing this issue, Master Pham Quang Huan - former deputy director of the Institute of Pedagogical Research (Hanoi National University of Education) - said that he welcomed Ho Chi Minh City's project to convert the model of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted to comply with the Law on Education and general regulations.

"The transformation of the Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted model should follow the central resolution and regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, with the spirit of no specialized schools at primary and secondary levels," said Master Pham Quang Huan. At the same time, he also said that there are two models:

Firstly, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will be separated into Tran Dai Nghia Middle School and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted. The Middle School will be a school that teaches in an advanced, modern, and internationally integrated direction. Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will teach in a specialized direction. This separation will still ensure that Ho Chi Minh City can build a key school because Ho Chi Minh City has a special mechanism.

Second, Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School will be transformed into Tran Dai Nghia Inter-level Secondary and High School. This model will no longer have Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School, but the entire secondary and high school system will be trained in an advanced, modern, and internationally integrated direction.

With this model, Ho Chi Minh City will eliminate the specialized system. This will probably cause regret for parents and students in Ho Chi Minh City. On the other hand, the reason Ho Chi Minh City left the secondary school level in Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted is probably to prepare a source of students for specialized schools as well as Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.

Therefore, Mr. Pham Quang Huan believes that Ho Chi Minh City may choose the model of separating Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted into two schools, which would be more reasonable.

Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted has two campuses.

Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted was established on the basis of Tran Dai Nghia High School in 2000. In recent years, the school has recruited students for both junior high and high school levels. The school's junior high school level is a "hot" address because of the desire of parents to send students here.

This school has two campuses, campus 1 at Ly Tu Trong - District 1; campus 2 in Thu Duc City and is the teaching address for secondary school level.

Due to the regulation that there is no specialized secondary school system, Ho Chi Minh City is proposing to the Ministry of Education and Training to continue enrolling secondary school students for the 2024-2025 school year at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted in the form of a survey.
