Provincial and municipal rankings: 28 localities have GRDP equivalent to the richest place in the country

There are 8 provinces and cities in the group with the highest GRDP economic scale in the country with a level of over 300,000 billion VND, while there are 28 localities with GRDP below 100,000 billion VND.



Thus, there are 27 provinces and cities with a gross regional domestic product - GRDP scale ranging from over 100,000 to under 300,000 billion VND, showing a significant difference in GRDP scale in many provinces and cities.

TOP has three centrally-governed cities

Among the top localities are Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Hai Phong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Quang Ninh and Thanh Hoa.

The two centrally-governed cities, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, continue to top the list as having the largest economic scale in the country, reaching VND1,780 trillion and VND1,430 trillion respectively. Meanwhile, Hai Phong, a centrally-governed city, is in 5th place with VND445,995 billion.

In addition, southern localities such as Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau are home to many industrial parks, industrial production centers, and the largest energy centers in the country, with economic scale all at over 400,000 billion VND.

This year, Thanh Hoa, although still holding the 8th position, for the first time its GRDP scale exceeded 318,752 billion VND. This result helped Thanh Hoa become the locality that continuously leads the group of localities in the North Central and South Central Coast regions.

The group of localities with an economic scale of less than 300,000 billion VND recorded 55 provinces and cities, but only 4 localities reached over 200,000 billion VND. Including Bac Ninh (232,000 billion VND), Nghe An (216,943 billion VND), Hai Duong (212,386 billion VND), Bac Giang (207,000 billion VND).

The remaining 22 localities have a GRDP scale of over 100,000 - under 200,000 billion VND. Among them are two centrally-governed cities: Da Nang and Can Tho.

The remaining localities are spread across all regions, but the largest proportion is in the North Central and South Central Coast regions, the Red River Delta, the Mekong River Delta...

With 28 localities having GRDP scale under 100,000 billion VND, most of them are located in the provinces of the Northern Midlands and Mountains, South Central Coast, Central Highlands... The total economic scale of these localities is equivalent to the GRDP scale of the highest city in the country, Ho Chi Minh City.

Of these, 8 localities have GRDP under 50,000 billion VND, including Lang Son (49,736 billion VND); Yen Bai (48,662 billion VND); Kon Tum (40,946 billion VND); Ha Giang (35,822 billion VND), Dien Bien (31,663 billion VND), Lai Chau (31,024 billion VND), Cao Bang (25,204 billion VND) and Bac Kan (18,744 billion VND).

Thus, the province with the lowest GRDP is Bac Kan compared to the locality with the highest GRDP scale, Ho Chi Minh City, with a gap of up to nearly 100 times.

Where has the highest growth and GRDP per capita?

In terms of the growth rate of gross regional domestic product (GRDP growth), the top 10 localities are the following provinces and cities: Bac Giang leads with 13.85%, Thanh Hoa: 12.16%; Ba Ria - Vung Tau: 11.72%; Hai Phong: 11.01%; Ha Nam: 10.93%; Lai Chau: 10.52%; Hai Duong: 10.2%; Khanh Hoa: 10.16%; Tra Vinh: 10.06%; Nam Dinh: 10.01%...

The group of localities with the lowest GRDP growth rates include: Ha Giang: 6.05%; Bac Ninh: 6.03%; Lang Son: 6.01%; Quang Tri: 5.97%; Ben Tre: 5.68%; Vinh Long: 5.65%; Dak Lak: 5.08%; Dak Nong: 4.87%; Quang Ngai: 4.07%; Lam Dong: 4.02%; Gia Lai: 3.28%.

Despite having the largest economic scale in the country, Ho Chi Minh City is not the locality with the highest GDP per capita. Holding this position is Ba Ria - Vung Tau province with more than 9,000 USD/person, followed by Hai Phong with 8,665 USD/person.

While in Ho Chi Minh City it is 7,600 USD/person; Hanoi is 6,406 USD/person; Da Nang is 4,719 USD/person, Can Tho is 4,162 USD/person and Hue is 2,840 USD/person.

Localities with low GRDP per capita include Ha Giang (1,540 USD/person), Gia Lai (2,665 USD/person), Yen Bai (2,206 USD/person), Bac Kan (2,233 USD/person), Quang Binh (2,550 USD/person), Son La (2,257 USD/person), Ben Tre (2,225 USD/person)...

According to the statistics agency, in 2024, our country's GDP is estimated to reach 11,511.9 trillion VND, equivalent to 476.3 billion USD. GDP per capita in 2024 at current prices is estimated to reach 114 million VND/person, equivalent to 4,700 USD, an increase of 377 USD compared to 2024.
