This year, the small house of Phung Thi Lien (1990) and Nguyen Hoang Trung (1984, residing in Son Tay, Hanoi) which used to be quiet, was filled with the chirping of children. Spring came to the doorstep and sparkled in the happy eyes of the couple after many years of waiting for good news.
After 12 years of infertility, Lien and Trung have had a baby (photo: NVCC).
Married since 2011, like many other couples, they dreamed of a perfect home. From the initial expectations, they gradually realized that the path to finding a child was not easy. Addresses of traditional medicine and good doctors to treat infertility all became stops for them in the journey to find a child of Lien and Trung.
In 2017, Eastern medicine was ineffective, so the couple decided to seek Western medicine in the hope of soon realizing their dream of becoming parents. The examination results showed that Mr. Trung had weak sperm, and the doctor advised the couple to consider In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). However, after two unsuccessful embryo transfers, all their dreams came to naught, leaving them with a lingering sadness.
Finances have always been a difficult problem for the family as Ms. Lien works as a factory worker and Mr. Trung is a freelancer, so their income is quite unstable. Whatever they earn, they save, save, and even have to borrow more with only one hope, to welcome their child soon.
In 2020, they decided to continue their IVF journey, but luck still slipped away.
During the 9 years of searching for a child, Lien and her husband went through many ups and downs, tried both Eastern and Western medicine, hoped and then disappointed. However, the desire to become parents of Lien and her husband always burned brightly, never extinguished for a moment.
In 2023, through a friend's introduction, the couple learned about the Hanoi Andrology and Infertility Hospital. The process of egg stimulation and egg retrieval went smoothly. On the day of the embryo announcement, Lien and her husband were happy when the doctor announced the result of 5 embryos on day 5.
On a summer day in May 2023, Ms. Lien transferred the embryo for the first time, but despite her best efforts, luck still did not smile on her and her husband. At the end of 2023, Ms. Lien continued to transfer the embryo for the second time. The days of waiting after the embryo transfer were a time full of excitement, anxiety and anticipation for her.
When the pregnancy test showed two lines, Ms. Lien was stunned and could not believe her eyes. A series of questions appeared in her mind: "Is it true? Could it be a mistake?". Those doubts were only truly cleared up on the 14th day after the embryo transfer, with the beta HCG test result officially confirming "she was pregnant".
Happiness was doubled when the doctor announced during the first ultrasound that she was carrying two little angels. Tears rolled down both of their cheeks, because it was not only tears of happiness but also a worthy reward for the arduous journey they had been through.
After that, every two weeks, Lien and her husband went to the hospital for check-ups, together going through each memorable milestone on the journey to parenthood.
In August 2024, the most special moment finally arrived. Ms. Lien entered the delivery room with the company of her family members. The first cries of the two babies Nguyen Ngoc Minh Anh and Nguyen Ngoc Minh Anh brought with them overflowing happiness, making the whole family burst into emotions. It was not only the most wonderful day in the lives of Mr. Trung and Ms. Lien, but also the sweet ending to a long 12-year journey overcoming many difficulties and challenges.
Now looking at their two children sleeping peacefully in their arms, for Lien and Trung, "this spring has a truly special meaning for our family."
