The No. 1 urban railway project was recognized by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee as one of the 50 typical projects to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.
On March 10, information from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that the unit has just issued a decision to recognize a typical city-level project to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

Accordingly, the urban railway project No. 1 (metro line No. 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) became one of the 50 typical city-level projects.
In addition to the metro line, the remaining 49 typical city-level projects and works are in the fields of culture - society (18 programs, works, projects); economy (6 programs, works, projects); urban (19 programs, works, projects); science - technology, innovation (4 works, projects); administrative reform (3 projects); national defense - security, foreign affairs (5 programs, works, projects).
The selected typical emulation projects and works are those that have a great impact on the lives of the people and the development of the city. The implementation of the program, works and projects must ensure quality, efficiency and on schedule.

With metro line 1, this is a project that was approved for investment in 2007, started construction in 2012, and after more than a decade of construction with many difficulties and challenges, by December 2024 this urban railway line will officially be put into operation to serve the people.
On March 9, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held an inauguration ceremony for the Metro Line 1 project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. On this day, the city placed a plaque at Ben Thanh Station, marking a very meaningful milestone.
Metro Line 1 has a total length of 19.7km, including 14 stations, connecting from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Thu Duc City. This is the first underground metro line in the country, applying many modern and advanced construction methods.
The project uses ODA capital from the Japanese Government and domestic counterpart capital, and is a key economic cooperation project between the Vietnamese and Japanese Governments. To date, Metro Line 1 has served more than 5 million passengers and received positive feedback from the public.
