According to records, Europe is a favorite destination of many Vietnamese tourists. However, the theft and loss of luggage, handbags, wallets, phones... is not uncommon . On travel forums, many people often advise Vietnamese tourists, especially those traveling independently, to pay attention to the protection of personal luggage, handbags, wallets, phones...
Speaking to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper on February 10, Mr. Pham Quy Huy, Director of Kiwi Travel Company, said that the above problem occurs not only in Europe and that travel companies have warned customers a lot.
For independent travelers, there will be some problems such as pickpocketing, lost luggage, being cheated when exchanging money... When traveling abroad, travelers should choose reputable and experienced travel agencies for advice, whether traveling independently or in a group tour.

Mr. Nguyen Bao Toan, Director of the Vietnam Tour Guide Operation Center (under Vietravel Tourism Company), also said that the issue of tourists having their belongings stolen in Europe has been alarming for a long time. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, when European tourism has recovered, this problem has continued to increase.
"There have been many times when tourist groups traveling to Europe have had their entire vehicles stolen! In a very short period of time, the driver left the vehicle due to personal reasons, and when he returned, the group's vehicle had been driven away. By the time the vehicle was found, almost all of the group's luggage had been lost!
Recently, a female MC lost her luggage while taking a train in Italy, which is a common occurrence in Europe, especially on trains in France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain. The target of these gangs of thieves is usually Asian passengers, a group of passengers who often have the habit of using cash," said Mr. Bao Toan.
Tourists are advised to use credit cards instead of cash when traveling to Europe.
When traveling, tourists are most vulnerable to theft of handbags, passports and mobile phones. To avoid problems and loss of belongings while traveling abroad, Mr. Pham Quy Huy recommends that guests take photos of their passports and visas when traveling. When arriving at the hotel, they should leave their belongings at the reception or in a safe to avoid pickpockets and loss.
"Limit carrying cash, prioritize using credit cards in case of loss, the card can be locked immediately. Take a photo of your luggage when checking in at the airport, attach a tag with full personal information, do not leave valuables in your luggage. Bring a small bag to hold valuables with you. You should go in groups of 2-3 people for convenience when using public transport" - Mr. Huy said.
According to Mr. Nguyen Bao Toan, to minimize damage, European tour guides often advise tourists during the pre-tour group meeting to limit the use of branded goods such as shoes, handbags, and watches. Encourage the use of bank cards instead of cash when shopping and absolutely do not count and check money in public places.
Always keep your luggage within the closest possible range, especially at the station, when taking the train, and when checking in at the hotel. Always keep your luggage within sight and within reach, especially if you accidentally leave your luggage at the two ends of the train (luggage compartment) when taking the train. Be patient and stand next to your luggage every time the train stops at the stations because this is the time when luggage is most likely to be snatched...
When traveling to Europe, visitors are advised not to exercise, jog in the morning or walk alone in the evening. Minimize contact with street vendors, bird feeders, people who tie blessing strings, teenagers who ask to see documents asking for charitable donations...
