(Fatherland) - In recent days, Shark's Jaw has been "hotter" than ever, as people and families have been checking in to say goodbye to the 30-year-old building with this special name.

Shark Jaw Building (also known as the Commercial Center Building No. 7 Dinh Tien Hoang or City View Building) is a commercial center built on the old tramway station with a view of Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and a panoramic view of Hoan Kiem Lake.

This project was designed by architect Ta Xuan Van, started in the early 1990s and completed in 1993. Despite receiving many mixed opinions from urban planning experts at the time of its opening, the Shark Jaw building has become an architectural highlight in the area around the lake.

The Hanoi People's Committee has just agreed to demolish the Shark Jaw building located next to Hoan Kiem Lake before April 30, 2025. According to the Hanoi Department of Planning and Architecture, the "Shark Jaw" building has an area of nearly 500m2. After being demolished, it will serve as a traffic square, ensuring connectivity between the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake and some adjacent streets.

After the official announcement of the demolition of the Ham Ca Map building, every weekend the walking street around Hoan Kiem Lake was "in chaos", especially the area around the Ham Ca Map building and Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc square.

In recent days, the Shark Jaw building has been "hotter" than ever. Not only do young people check in here, but older generations like uncles and mothers also take advantage of their free time on weekends to capture the last images of this building.

Joining the crowd taking photos at the Shark Jaw building, Ms. Ha Thu (Hanoi) shared:   "When I heard the news that the Shark's Jaw building would be demolished, to be honest, I was also excited and agreed with this policy. If the Shark's Jaw building is demolished, the space in the Hoan Kiem Lake area will be more spacious and airy in the future.

However, this building is over 30 years old, and there are many memories associated with the people here. When I was young, I also had many memories with this building. My friends and I often went for a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, ate ice cream... at that time, it was not as crowded and bustling as it is now. It has been decades since then.

And now that I'm in my 60s, I want to capture some moments at Shark's Jaw before the building is demolished. Many years from now, the building will no longer exist and will be replaced by another project, so photos like this will mark the memory of a special building."

On weekends, the weather is pleasant, people also take advantage of their free time to walk around Hoan Kiem Lake and do not forget to check in at Ham Ca Map. Also on weekends, the check-in line is bustling, around Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square area is so crowded that it "bursts". Everyone wants to capture the last images of this building that is more than 30 years old.

Mai Anh (34 years old, Hanoi) shared:   "In addition to checking in in front of Shark's Jaw, I also wanted to enjoy the little time I had, sipping a cup of coffee on the second floor of the building. Downstairs was already bustling with people, the cafe upstairs was equally crowded, even full, I had to wait a long time for a table.   Everyone took the opportunity to take a few panoramic photos, or chose a small corner outside the railing, to be able to watch the people below.

However, because so many people come to Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square to check in, there are also some moments that are not really "nice to look at".

Many people stood on the steps of the fountain just to get a check-in photo with the Shark Jaw building.

It would be fine to just sit on the steps of the fountain, but many people stand on the steps, even going deep into the inner steps to take pictures. There is no rule against standing on the steps, but it is clearly inappropriate, especially when the area around the lake has many tourists.
