In order to focus on his form for the 19th ASIAD held in Hangzhou (China) next September, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang will focus on training in Hungary and will not participate in the world swimming championship.
The World Swimming Championships will take place from July 23 to 30 in Fukuoka, Japan. To participate in the tournament, athletes must pass the required standards.
Swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang will focus on training in Hungary and will not participate in the world swimming championship.
The Vietnamese swimming team has 10 swimmers who exceeded the standard and qualified to participate in the tournament, including 9 male athletes Tran Hung Nguyen, Pham Thanh Bao, Nguyen Quang Thuan, Nguyen Huu Kim Son, Hoang Quy Phuoc, Ho Nguyen Duy Khoa, Mai Tran Tuan Anh, Do Ngoc Vinh, Luong Jérémie Loic Nino and 1 female athlete Vo Thi My Tien.
At the World Swimming Championship, Nguyen Huy Hoang met the B standard to participate in 3 events: 1,500m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 200m freestyle. However, in order to focus on his performance at the 19th ASIAD, after discussing with experts and the coaching staff, Huy Hoang will not participate in the World Swimming Championship.
Ms. Le Thanh Huyen - in charge of swimming (General Department of Sports and Physical Training) said that Huy Hoang's peak performance was calculated at ASIAD 19. This tournament is considered as a qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Therefore, he will achieve a dual goal, striving for high results, as well as seeking a direct ticket to Paris to attend the biggest sports festival on the planet next year.
At the 19th ASIAD, Huy Hoang is expected to win the silver medal in the 1,500m event in which he won the silver medal at the 2018 ASIAD in Jakarta. This year, Huy Hoang's number one rival, Sun Yang (China), is absent due to a doping ban. This is a great opportunity for Huy Hoang to change the color of his medal.
The most recent tournament that Huy Hoang participated in was the 2023 Italian National Swimming Championship in early June. In the boot-shaped country, the swimmer born in 2000 achieved a time of 15 minutes 10 seconds 01 (15:10.01) in the 1,500m distance, better than the 15:11.24 that helped the Quang Binh boy win the gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia recently.
The 2023 World Aquatics Championships will be held by the International Aquatics Federation (FINA) from July 14 to 30. In addition to the world swimming championships, the tournament will also feature synchronized swimming, diving, water polo, and long-distance swimming.
