Early morning of August 2, Canadian athlete Summer McIntosh continued her impressive performance by winning the gold medal in the women's 200m butterfly event. The achievement that this athlete, not yet 18 years old, achieved was 2 minutes 03 seconds 03, surpassing Zhang Yufei's Olympic record set in Tokyo 3 years ago.
This is McIntosh's second gold medal at this year's Olympics. Previously, this "swimmer" achieved the highest ranking in the women's 400m individual medley with a time of 4 minutes 27 seconds 71. In addition, the athlete, who will celebrate her 18th birthday on August 18, also won a silver medal in the women's 400m freestyle with a time of 3 minutes 58 seconds 37.
Summer McIntosh still has two more events to compete in: the women's 4x100m relay, the women's 4x200m relay, and the women's 200m individual medley. Therefore, she can still improve her record for Canada at this year's Olympics.
Sharing after the results, McIntosh said: "I just tried to make Team Canada proud and inspire. I was happy to complete the mission, stand on the podium and win gold. It's always about having fun, as well as pushing my body to the limit. Inspiring Canadian kids has always been my goal."
With 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal to date, Summer McIntosh is one of the athletes with the most medals, behind only Léon Marchand (France) and Mollie O'Callaghan (Australia) who have won 3 gold medals. However, McIntosh is the youngest compared to the other two athletes.
