The Vietnam Aquatics Association (VASA) held a Gala to honor and present the Vietnam Aquatics Awards 2024 on the evening of December 24. This is the first time this award has been held, to recognize and honor the efforts and achievements of athletes and coaches for Vietnamese aquatic sports.
At the award ceremony, Nguyen Huy Hoang and Vo Thi My Tien were honored to receive the title of best swimmer of 2024. Nguyen Huy Hoang is the only representative of Vietnamese swimming to win a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In addition, this swimmer won 5 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 1 bronze medal at the Asian Age Group Championship. In the domestic arena, the athlete born in 2000 still has no rivals when winning 6 gold medals, 2 bronze medals and breaking 4 national records.
Nguyen Huy Hoang and Vo Thi My Tien received the award for best swimmer of 2024.
Vo Thi My Tien won 1 gold medal, 4 silver medals, 4 bronze medals at the Asian age group swimming championships along with 25 medals at national competitions. Athlete Nguyen Thuy Hien, who made a strong impression at the 32nd SEA Games, continued to have a year of progress. She was recognized with the title of Best Young Swimmer of the Year.
“Aquatic sports is a field that faces many difficulties and challenges compared to land-based sports. After more than 60 years of operation with many hardships and challenges, especially in the period of 2018-2024 and through 3 years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the team of athletes and coaches of VASA has firmly overcome all challenges and achieved many proud achievements, raising the position of Vietnamese Aquatic Sports in the region and in the world.
Although the achievements are modest compared to the continent and the world, this Gala of Honor and Awards gives us pride in the outstanding individuals and organizations in 2024 as well as previous years. It is a process of dedication, devotion, hard work and hardship to achieve today's achievements," said Mr. Pham Hong Linh - Chairman of VASA at the award ceremony.
Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee Truong Ngoc Mai, Deputy General Director of Helios Investment Joint Stock Company - the award's co-organizer, shared: "We believe that Vietnam Aquatics Awards 2024 will continue to develop and affirm its position as a continuous flow in the development of Aquatic Sports in Vietnam, contributing to bringing this field further into the international arena and spreading the passion for sports to future generations."
