At least 18 migrants died when their boat sank off the coast of Morocco last weekend, Senegalese officials said on July 20.
The mayor of Rufisque, Oumar Cisse, said the boat carrying 63 migrants capsized. Survivors of the sinking said a total of 18 people died, including 13 residents of Rufisque.

The survivors are being cared for in the southern Moroccan city of Dakhla. Mr. Cisse said he was working with local authorities to bring the survivors home.
On July 18, the Moroccan Navy announced that in a week this July, they rescued nearly 900 illegal migrants, including 400 in the country's territorial waters. The majority of the migrants came from the sub-Saharan region of Africa.
About a week ago, at least 14 people died when their boat capsized off the coast of the Senegalese city of Saint-Louis, which borders Mauritania.
