This is the sixth attack in the past six days and the 20th since early May in Kyiv. Mayor Vitali Klitschko has ordered the establishment of 24-hour shelters across the capital after it was reported that three people killed on June 1 by missile fragments were unable to enter the shelters because they were locked.

Among the three victims was a 9-year-old child. President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that if local officials failed to protect people, they would be prosecuted.

On June 2, several attacks occurred in Russian regions near Ukraine as fighting was reported to have spread from the border area between the two countries into Russian territory. The governors of the Kursk and Smolensk regions reported that UAVs had damaged a number of houses and energy facilities. Officials in Bryansk and Belgorod said the two regions had been shelled, with two people killed and two injured in Belgorod alone.

Ukraine has not commented on this information.

Russia has new suicide UAV

TASS news agency on June 2 quoted an announcement from Russia's Oko Design Bureau saying that a new suicide UAV named Privet-82 had passed tests in a special military operation zone in Ukraine and was preparing to be deployed in combat.

Why did the once-famous Bayraktar TB2 UAV suddenly disappear in the Ukraine conflict?

The UAV has a range of 30 km, can reach speeds of 140 km/h and can carry a payload of 5.5 kg. To date, 12 have been delivered to Ukraine and Oko is in constant contact with the units that will receive this type of UAV.

On the other hand, Oko Design Bureau also said that it has tested the reconnaissance version of Privet-82 and will adjust the camera unit before production.

China, US talk about peaceful dialogue

Li Hui, China’s Special Envoy for Eurasian Affairs, said on June 2 that there are still many difficulties preventing the parties in the conflict in Ukraine from sitting down for dialogue. However, he affirmed that it is not that the parties do not have any points of consensus and that neither Russia nor Ukraine have completely closed the door to dialogue.

The official said Ukraine and Russia had thanked China for its efforts to promote dialogue. On the other hand, Mr. Li criticized the West for sending weapons to Ukraine. "If we truly want to stop the war, save lives and achieve peace, we should stop sending weapons to the battlefield. The painful lessons of how the Ukraine crisis has progressed to its current state deserve a deep reassessment by all sides," Mr. Li said.

In May, the official embarked on a 12-day trip to Kyiv, Europe and Moscow to promote dialogue. He acknowledged that the trip was unlikely to yield immediate results and said China was willing to consider sending another delegation to the countries involved to promote dialogue. "It was the first time but not the last time," Mr. Li said of the visit.

French President wants security guarantees for Ukraine

On the same day, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US and Ukraine are working with other allies to build consensus on core components of a "just and lasting" peace in Ukraine.

Speaking in Helsinki, Finland, Mr. Blinken said the US encourages other countries such as Brazil and China to propose initiatives to end the conflict, but those proposals must comply with the UN Charter and respect Ukraine's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. In addition, the diplomat stressed that the prerequisite for entering into peace negotiations is a stronger Ukraine, capable of preventing and defending against future attacks.

America seeks to buy explosives to make artillery shells

Reuters on June 2 quoted two sources as saying that the US is looking for a supplier of TNT explosives from Japan to produce 155mm artillery shells. Tokyo has strict regulations on exporting products and equipment for military purposes, but the source revealed that Washington has ways to circumvent these regulations.

The source said Japan has informed the US that it will allow the export of TNT because the explosive is a product used not only for military purposes but also for industry.

Poland will not supply F-16s to Ukraine

Japan declined to comment on the information, according to Reuters.

In a related development, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said on June 2 that Tokyo and like-minded partners must unite and maintain sanctions against Russia until it ends its military campaign in Ukraine.
