Expenses for taking care of union members during Tet 2024 increased by 15%

The above information was given by the Head of the Propaganda Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) at a press briefing on key tasks of trade union activities in 2024 held late afternoon on February 26.

Accordingly, during the 2024 Lunar New Year, all 4 levels of the Trade Union will focus on the grassroots, giving priority to caring for union members and workers in especially difficult circumstances, those who have suffered work-related accidents, occupational diseases, serious illnesses, natural disasters, storms and floods; union members and workers who are unemployed or have lost their jobs; union members and workers who are policy families, are ethnic minorities or have not had the opportunity to return home to reunite with their families for many years...

During the 2024 Lunar New Year, more than 10.5 million union members and workers benefited from the care activities of the Trade Union organization with a total budget of more than 7,025 billion VND (an increase of 15% compared to the 2023 Lunar New Year).

Of the total care budget, expenditure from trade union financial resources is 3,506 billion VND; calling for social support to support the care budget for union members and workers is 3,519 billion VND (accounting for 50.1% of the total care budget).

Many specific and practical caring activities have been effectively implemented such as: Consulting and organizing for leaders of the Party, State, central ministries and branches to visit, wish a happy New Year and give gifts to union members and workers. During the New Year, implementing the direction of the Politburo, the Central Party Secretariat, the General Confederation of Labor, trade unions at all levels consulted and coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, authorities, and professional colleagues to serve 248 delegations of leaders of the Party, State, and National Assembly, leaders of departments, ministries and branches, National Assembly Committees, and National Assembly delegations in 63/63 provinces and cities to visit and give gifts to 32,200 union members and workers with a budget of nearly 39 billion VND.

Trade unions at all levels organized 18,701 "Tet Sum Vay - Xuan Chia Chia" programs, attracting nearly 4 million union members and workers to participate; more than 2.1 million union members and workers received gifts with a total amount of nearly 1,306 billion VND.

Of which, provincial and sectoral trade unions organized 157 programs, with a total amount of over 88 billion VND; trade unions at the grassroots level directly above organized 1,946 programs, with a total amount of over 276 billion VND; grassroots trade unions organized 16,598 programs, with a total amount of over 942 billion VND...

Through the program
Through the program "Union Tet Journey - Spring 2024", 243,735 union members and workers were supported with train tickets, bus tickets, and plane tickets to return home for Tet.

Along with that, with the goal of diversifying forms of care, helping union members and workers return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet safely, conveniently and happily, trade unions at all levels continue to organize the donation of train tickets, bus tickets, plane tickets, and support vehicles to take union members and workers home to celebrate Tet and return to work after Tet. Through the program "Trade Union Tet Journey - Spring 2024", 243,735 union members and workers have been supported with train tickets, bus tickets, and plane tickets, with a total support amount of over 106 billion VND.

At the same time, trade unions at all levels organized and coordinated with agencies, units, and employers to organize 5,049 free buses to bring over 170,150 union members and workers home for Tet with a total amount of nearly 49 billion VND.

Thanks to the thoughtful and practical Tet care of the Trade Union organization, it has contributed to encouraging union members and workers to return to work after Tet on time. According to quick reports from localities and sectors, by the end of February 15, 2024 (January 6), about 92% of enterprises and workers have returned to production, business and work normally, depending on the locality, the rate fluctuates from 42% to 100%.
