Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province Le Huu Toan presented gifts to ship owners, captains and fishermen on the occasion of the first departure of 2025.
On the morning of February 9, at Tac Cau fishing port, Chau Thanh district (Kien Giang), the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province held a meeting to visit, encourage and give gifts to fishermen on the occasion of the first departure of 2025. Leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province sent New Year greetings to ship owners, captains and fishermen.
In 2024, despite unfavorable weather conditions, fluctuating fuel prices and challenges in seafood exports, Kien Giang fishermen still persevered at sea, maintained production and achieved impressive results. The output reached 430,821 tons, accounting for 11% of the country's output. These contributions not only brought economic value but also demonstrated the spirit of solidarity and protection of the country's sovereignty over the sea and islands.
Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province, Le Huu Toan, acknowledged the efforts of fishermen in complying with the law on fisheries, combating IUU fishing, not violating foreign waters, and actively cooperating with specialized agencies in registering and inspecting fishing vessels, and installing voyage monitoring equipment. Notably, from August 2024 to present, Kien Giang has had no fishing vessels violating foreign waters.

With many new opportunities opening up in 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province is committed to continuing to support fishermen through effective and sustainable fishing programs and policies. The Director of the Department called on fishermen to continue to strictly implement regulations on combating IUU fishing, fishing in the right industry, in the right area, and maintaining voyage monitoring devices.
On this occasion, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province presented 100 buoys, 100 life jackets and hundreds of leaflets promoting anti-IUU fishing to fishermen, with the hope that the 2025 fishing season will be safe and successful.
