More than 95% of voters agree with the plan to establish Dong Trieu City.

On March 8, according to information from the Office of the People's Council and People's Committee of Dong Trieu town, Quang Ninh province, at the 17th Session (special session), the People's Council of Dong Trieu town, term XX, term 2021 - 2026, delegates voted to approve the draft Resolution on approving the policy of establishing wards: Binh Duong, Thuy An, Binh Khe, Yen Duc in Dong Trieu town and establishing Dong Trieu City.

Previously, the Project to establish the wards: Binh Duong, Thuy An, Binh Khe, Yen Duc in Dong Trieu town and establish Dong Trieu city was submitted to collect voters' opinions in 162 villages and residential groups in the area. Of which, 97.71% of voters approved the establishment of the wards: Binh Duong, Thuy An, Binh Khe, Yen Duc in Dong Trieu town and 95.43% of voters approved the establishment of Dong Trieu city.

Dong Trieu town under Quang Ninh province was established in 2015 and recognized as a type III urban area in 2020. Currently, the locality basically meets 5/5 criteria to establish a city, including: Population size, natural area, affiliated administrative units, standards recognized as a type I or type II or type III urban area, structure and level of socio-economic development.

Currently with 4 cities under the province, including: Ha Long, Uong Bi, Mong Cai, Cam Pha, Quang Ninh province is 1 of 2 localities with the most cities under the province in the country (along with Binh Duong province).

According to the planning approved by the Prime Minister, Quang Ninh province will upgrade 3 districts to city level before 2030, including: Dong Trieu, Quang Yen and Van Don. In which, Dong Trieu town is expected to become a city in 2025 at the earliest .
