Dong Trieu town officially became the 5th city of Quang Ninh province according to Resolution No. 1199/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of district and commune-level administrative units of Quang Ninh province for the period 2023-2025.

Immediately after November 1, the entire political system of Dong Trieu operated as a city under the province; promptly completed the work of organizing the Party and government bases to ensure meeting the requirements; did a good job of political ideology, maintained the great solidarity bloc within the Party Committee and the entire people, especially in the two merged communes and wards.

The town "changes"

The place name Dong Trieu appeared in the middle of the 14th century, over 700 years ago, when the 7th king of the Tran Dynasty, Tran Du Tong, changed the name of Yen Sinh to Dong Trieu, belonging to Dong Trieu Chau.

In October 1961, Dong Trieu belonged to Hong Quang Special Zone. On October 30, 1963, when Hong Quang Special Zone and Hai Ninh province were merged into Quang Ninh province, Dong Trieu officially became a district-level unit of Quang Ninh province.

Since 2003, Dong Trieu Town has been chosen by the province as a point for agricultural industrialization and modernization, the fourth district-level administrative unit in the country and the first unit in the Northern region to reach the finish line in the new rural construction program, creating a new look, new vitality, and new momentum for this land.

Dong Trieu has a convenient transportation system connecting by road, waterway and railway with major economic centers in the region. Based on the planning of the province and the locality, Dong Trieu Town has built a system of industrial clusters in the area; built a connecting traffic infrastructure system to exploit the potential of the land and cultural and social infrastructure.

Here, education is the foundation for local development, health care is given a lot of resources to develop into a medical examination and treatment center for people in the area and neighboring areas, and the urban environment is given attention. In particular, administrative reform is at the top of the province in terms of people's satisfaction index...

In recent years, this town has promoted its existing advantages and potentials, gradually shifting its economic structure and balancing the proportion of industries.

Since then, remarkable achievements have been achieved. Specifically, by the end of 2023, the total production value in the town is estimated to reach 53,656.8 billion VND. The economic growth rate is estimated at 14.0%; industry - construction accounts for 64.8%; trade - services account for 30.8%; agriculture - forestry - fishery accounts for 4.4%.

On the other hand, thanks to the effective exploitation of mineral resources, especially coal, Dong Trieu has attracted many investors, forming large-scale industrial zones.

In addition, the service industry has also been strongly developed, creating many jobs and increasing income for local people and neighboring areas. By the end of 2023, the average income per capita of Dong Trieu Town will reach over 163 million VND/year, 1.6 times higher than the national average.

One center, two dynamic lines, three development spaces

This is also a favorable condition and has a strong impact on local economic growth, strongly shifting the economic structure towards rapidly increasing the proportion of industry, handicrafts, trade and services; accelerating the industrialization and modernization process.

At the same time, develop synchronous and modern urban technical infrastructure that attracts strong domestic and foreign investment; promote investment in building traffic routes connecting with neighboring economic zones, creating favorable conditions for production development and goods circulation.

According to Dong Trieu City Secretary Nguyen Van Cong, the official establishment of Dong Trieu City is an important historical milestone, a great step forward, opening a new era of development.

"This is the driving force for Dong Trieu to mobilize development resources according to the motto: One center, two dynamic routes, three development spaces," Mr. Nguyen Van Cong emphasized.

In the coming time, Dong Trieu will focus on exploiting and promoting its potential and strengths to the fullest, mobilizing and effectively using resources, strengthening the strength of national solidarity, promoting the development of industry, handicrafts and services to develop the economy at a high and sustainable speed.

Currently, Quang Ninh has determined to build Dong Trieu into an ecological urban area; the locality also determined to build infrastructure and rural people's lives closer to urban areas.

Regarding services, Dong Trieu also focuses on developing spiritual and cultural services, experiences; developing agricultural experience tourism; high-quality resort tourism; developing services by promoting a chain of commercial centers, services, education, medical services, etc.

Along with that, culture and society will develop synchronously with economic growth, improving the material and spiritual life of the people. While strongly promoting economic development, improving productivity, quality and efficiency, we will also focus on planning and building the external transport infrastructure system, regional connectivity, key projects and works, and urban infrastructure.

In addition, well solve social problems, especially employment and environmental pollution; improve the quality and efficiency of cultural and social activities... In the period up to 2030, focus on building Dong Trieu to soon meet the basic criteria of a type II urban area.

From there, it helps Dong Trieu affirm its position as a gateway city connecting Quang Ninh province with Hanoi capital and the northern provinces.
