At the invitation of General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Vietnam from April 14-15.
With this visit, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping will have a total of 5 visits to Vietnam in different positions. Since the normalization of relations, this is the first time a General Secretary and President of China has visited Vietnam 5 times.
Accordingly, this is the second state visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam during his third term.
Mr. Xi Jinping visited Vietnam once when he was Vice President in December 2011. As General Secretary and President of China, Mr. Xi Jinping visited Vietnam three times in 2015, 2017, and 2023.
December 2011
In December 2011, at the invitation of Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping paid an official visit to Vietnam. The trip took place just two months after the Vietnamese General Secretary paid an official visit to China.

The visit is of great significance in consolidating and promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two Parties and two countries. During his three-day stay in Vietnam, Vice President Xi Jinping met with key Vietnamese leaders.
November 2015
As General Secretary and President of China, Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Vietnam in November 2015 at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Truong Tan Sang. The visit took place on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

During the visit, Mr. Xi Jinping held talks and met with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.
In the joint statement of the visit, Vietnam and China agreed to inherit and promote, and well implement the motto of "friendly neighbors, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, looking towards the future" and the spirit of "good neighbors, good friends, good comrades, good partners".

November 2017
In November 2017, Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Vietnam and attended the APEC Summit in Da Nang. This was Xi Jinping's first foreign visit after the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping held talks with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and met with key leaders of Vietnam.
During the visit, the two sides agreed to actively resolve difficulties and obstacles, bringing the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to continuous, stable and sustainable development.

December 2023

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a solemn welcoming ceremony for the Chinese General Secretary and President at the Presidential Palace. The two leaders reviewed the development of relations between the two Parties and countries, agreeing that the traditional friendship of comradeship and brotherhood is a valuable asset of the two peoples. The two countries need to continue to inherit and promote it.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping.
