Located on the left bank of the Lam River, Tam Son is a remote commune of Anh Son District, Nghe An. Surrounded by mountains, rivers, and rice fields, the landscape is picturesque. In mid-March, dozens of ancient cotton trees bloom bright red on the roads leading to the commune.
For many years, local people and authorities have worked together to protect and care for the rows of kapok trees growing close together on the road leading to the central stadium of Tam Son commune. From afar, the kapok flowers bloom, creating bright red streaks, standing out against the limestone mountains.
The red cotton trees glow in the green of the forests and in the prosperous villages, creating a special highlight for the Tam Son land. This is also a rare and beautiful cotton flower road in Nghe An.
Every blooming season, the ancient kapok tree, which is dozens of years old and can be hugged by 5-6 people, becomes a tourist attraction.
Tam Son commune currently has more than 300 kapok trees, most of which grow naturally. Of these, 50 trees are between 50 and over 100 years old.
Mr. Nguyen Van Que - Chairman of Tam Son Commune People's Committee - said that from the first groups of visitors from afar coming to take photos of the cotton flowers, over the past two years the commune has organized an annual cotton flower festival to introduce and promote the beauty of Tam Son land and people, along with promoting the value of the cotton trees - the highlight and pride of local people.
According to Mr. Que, along with protecting, caring for, and developing the existing kapok trees, Tam Son commune is expanding the planting of kapok flowers along the commune's main roads.
"The commune strictly prohibits individuals and organizations from collecting money from visitors to take photos. People are also aware of protecting and preserving the beauty of the kapok trees to attract more visitors to the locality, thereby promoting the development of the tourism economy," Mr. Que shared.
