Developing the ancient Muong village into an OCOP (One Commune One Product) product.

Despite having been involved in tourism for over a decade, Luu Ai hamlet in Phong Phu commune (Tan Lac district) has not yet developed to its full potential and expectations. Within the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program, Phong Phu commune has chosen Luu Ai hamlet as a model for promoting tourism in this ancient Muong village.

Luỹ Ải Hamlet is one of 20 typical traditional villages of ethnic minorities that the State has invested in preserving and restoring. More than 10 years ago (in 2009), the project "Preservation and restoration of typical traditional Muong ethnic villages" in Luỹ Ải Hamlet was implemented, with the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism as the investor. In 2014, the Provincial People's Committee recognized Luỹ Ải Hamlet as a community tourism destination. After more than a decade of tourism development, the hamlet has undergone changes in recent years. The village roads have become wider, and the stilt houses have been renovated and beautified by the villagers. However, these changes have not yet matched the hamlet's potential, nor the expectations of tourists for an ancient Muong village.

This view was also shared by Comrade Cao Bá Chính, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phong Phú Commune: Lũy Ải Hamlet has a very favorable location for developing community tourism. The hamlet has beautiful scenery and many preserved ancient stilt houses. It is also located near National Highway 6, serving as a transit point to famous community tourism villages such as Lác village in Mai Châu district, or Mu Waterfall in Lạc Sơn district. However, due to difficulties in investment capital and a lingering reliance on the government, community tourism in Lũy Ải Hamlet has not yet achieved significant breakthroughs. In the OCOP program, the commune has selected Lũy Ải Hamlet's community tourism product for widespread promotion, as well as to improve the quality of tourism products to meet the needs of tourists and increase income for the people.

In Luỹ Ải hamlet, Mr. Dinh Cong Lon's family is one of the first households to engage in tourism. Their stilt house, over 30 years old, has been renovated and upgraded to a modern and spacious state, while still retaining the traditional features of the ancient Muong stilt houses. To serve tourists, Mr. Lon's family invested in building clean outbuildings, digging a fish pond, and growing vegetables to ensure a sufficient supply of clean food on-site. From 2016 to the present, the number of tourists staying has gradually increased, providing his family with a stable monthly income. However, according to Mr. Lon, the development of community tourism faces many difficulties. These include challenges related to tourism infrastructure; it wasn't until 2019 that some sections of the hamlet received investment for road paving. Before that, the hamlet received investment for the construction of a cultural center, and households received support for building toilets. The village's image has not been promoted regularly, so despite its favorable geographical location, the number of visitors to Ai village remains modest.

Sharing his thoughts on Luu Ai hamlet being selected by the commune to develop an OCOP product, Mr. Lon expressed his excitement but also shared his concerns: "Although it's a community tourism hamlet, in reality, many young people in the hamlet have to go far away to work, and only a few households have a stable income from tourism. Participating in OCOP is a great opportunity to improve the quality of the hamlet's tourism products. We will continue to restore and promote the unique values of the Muong ethnic group, both in culture and cuisine . At the same time, we hope to receive more attention and support from the authorities at all levels in promoting the image of the hamlet, as well as guidance on tourism skills and English training to better serve foreign tourists."

To develop the ancient Muong village into an OCOP (One Commune One Product) product, Mr. Cao Ba Chinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phong Phu commune, said: The commune will direct officials in charge to closely monitor the area, understand the thoughts and aspirations of the people, and guide them to meet the OCOP standards. At the same time, it will promote the restoration of local specialties to create a local supply for tourism development, so that tourists visiting Phong Phu commune can enjoy products made by the local people.
