"Ba Duong Noi village kite festival" officially becomes national intangible cultural heritage

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Dan Phuong District People's Committee Nguyen Van Duc said that receiving the title is an honor and pride for the Party Committee, government and people of Dan Phuong district, especially the people of Ba Duong Noi village, Hong Ha commune.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Dan Phuong district also said that in recent times, the locality has focused on promoting communication, promotion, and introducing the homeland, people, cultural heritages, traditional crafts, especially the local kite festival and kite making craft to domestic and international friends. Proactively applying, creatively and flexibly concretizing the guidelines and policies of the Party and State, the Resolutions and directives of the City on preserving and promoting the values ​​of cultural heritage, traditional crafts and the conditions and practical situations at the grassroots level.

Build the national intangible cultural heritage "Ba Duong Noi Kite Festival" to become a typical cultural heritage, imbued with the cultural identity of the Vietnamese nation; the traditional craft of making flute kites in Hanoi has a lasting and strong vitality, not only creating jobs and stable income for the people of Ba Duong Noi village, Hong Ha commune, but also for households in neighboring areas.

After the Ceremony of receiving the National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Ba Duong Noi Village Kite Festival" and the Certificate of recognition of the title "Hanoi Traditional Craft", Hong Ha commune opened the Traditional Kite Flying Festival.

This year, the Ba Duong Noi village kite festival attracted 72 kites to compete. According to traditional rules, the kites that meet the competition criteria must be at least 2.2m long, 0.6m wide, have 3 flutes (the flute diameter must be 2.5cm or more), the kite must not be covered with white glossy paper... and will be flown in the village fields. The kites with the best flutes, that fly the highest and stand the most still... will be the winning kites.

The annual Ba Duong Noi village kite flying competition takes place over three days from the 14th to the 16th of the third lunar month. The main festival day is the 15th of the third lunar month, the time when a new planting season begins for farmers in the past.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Hong Ha Commune (Dan Phuong, Hanoi), Nguyen Manh Ha, said that currently, Ba Duong Noi village has 134 households making traditional flute kites. The village has 3 artisans who have been awarded the title of People's Artisan and Meritorious Artisan in the field of intangible cultural heritage.

The annual kite flying competition in Ba Duong Noi village takes place over three days from the 14th to the 16th of the third lunar month.

“The teaching of how to make and play kites is not only in the village but also spreads to many other groups of people such as on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival or International Children's Day on June 1, or in extracurricular activities of schools and other events of Hanoi City as well as many other provinces and cities, artisans in the village have participated in introducing and instructing children and young people about this folk game,” Mr. Ha shared.

In the framework of the ceremony, in addition to the traditional kite flying contest at the Dieu temple relic, there are also other activities such as: Decorating the "Connecting Journey" kite road; an exhibition area introducing typical craft village products and OCOP products of the capital; displaying and introducing exhibitions of kites, photos, poems, and works of art about kites; displaying and introducing ornamental plants; organizing a conference to summarize the restoration and embellishment of the Dieu temple; organizing a parade to promote kites around Dan Phuong district by car and motorbike; organizing a culinary contest, a traditional rice cake pounding contest; art programs performed by village art clubs; chess competition; open volleyball competition; youth kite competition...
