Warm Tet for the meritorious and the poor
Reporting on the work of ensuring social security for the 2024 Lunar New Year in localities across the country, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that the total funding sources to support and give Tet gifts to people with meritorious services to the revolution and their relatives to date is over 2,700 billion VND.
Specifically, on this occasion, more than 1.4 million people received gifts from the President with a total cost of nearly 450 billion VND, with two gift levels of 300,000 VND and 600,000 VND/person.
In addition to the gifts from the President, localities such as Ho Chi Minh City have given gifts to more than 415,923 meritorious people with a total cost of over 457 billion VND; Hanoi has given gifts to 328,444 meritorious people with a total cost of over 256 billion VND; Quang Ninh has given gifts to 226,877 meritorious people with a total cost of over 116 billion VND...

Regarding the work of taking care of the poor and social protection beneficiaries during Tet, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has coordinated with the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to develop and implement a plan to visit and give 12,600 gifts to the poor and people in difficult circumstances on the occasion of Tet Giap Thin.
Accordingly, the Central "For the Poor" Fund has allocated 17.7 billion VND to give gifts to poor and near-poor households. In recent times, leaders of the Party, State, leaders of Central Committees, Ministries and branches have organized working delegations to visit and give gifts to people with meritorious services to the revolution, war invalids, heroic Vietnamese mothers, poor and near-poor households, workers and laborers in difficult circumstances in localities across the country.
The Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels from the central to local levels has drawn from the "For the Poor" Fund at all levels and chaired and coordinated with member organizations of the Front to mobilize units, businesses, and philanthropists to directly visit and give tens of thousands of Tet gifts to poor households, near-poor households, poor workers, and people in difficult circumstances.
In addition, localities have supported and given Tet gifts to 3.6 million social protection beneficiaries, poor and near-poor households, and congratulated and celebrated longevity to more than 1 million elderly people. The support level from the local budget is commonly from 300,000 - 500,000 VND/benefit.
In particular, localities have fully and promptly paid social allowances to social protection beneficiaries in the community in accordance with regulations; avoiding errors in the payment process and delays in payment of allowances.
During the 2024 Lunar New Year, localities nationwide supported and gave Tet gifts to more than 12.9 million beneficiaries with a total budget of nearly VND 7,656 billion, of which the central budget was VND 666 billion; the local budget was VND 4,785 billion; and the social mobilization budget was VND 2,205 billion.
17,000 tons of rice distributed during Tet, the lean season
Regarding rice support for the Lunar New Year and the 2024 crop year, as of February 6, 18 provinces facing resource difficulties, including Soc Trang, Cao Bang, Binh Dinh, Gia Lai, Nghe An, Bac Lieu, Dak Nong, Ninh Thuan, Dak Lak, Binh Phuoc, Ha Giang, Kon Tum, Bac Kan, Quang Ngai, Kien Giang, An Giang, Lang Son and Tay Ninh, have requested the Central Government to provide 13,690 tons of rice to support 136,765 households with 849,127 people.

Based on the local proposal, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs coordinated with the Ministry of Finance to review and appraise the decision to submit to the Prime Minister for approval of the Decision to export nearly 13,000 tons of rice to support 136,765 households with 849,127 people on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024 and the crop year 2024.
In addition, localities also developed plans, proactively arranged local budgets and socialized resources to export nearly 5,000 tons of rice to support poor and near-poor households and people in difficult circumstances.
Thus, during the Lunar New Year 2024, the Central and local governments supported about 17,736 tons of rice for people across the country.
