(Dan Tri) - During the Lunar New Year 2025, the whole country gave gifts and supported more than 13.5 million people with a total cost of more than 7,800 billion VND.
Allocate large funds to take care of meritorious people and the poor
Reporting on social security work during the Lunar New Year 2025, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that support for people with revolutionary contributions, the elderly, social security beneficiaries and those in difficult circumstances has been effectively implemented, ensuring a joyful, warm and practical atmosphere.
According to the report of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of localities, the whole country has supported and given Tet gifts to more than 13.5 million beneficiaries, with a total budget of over 7,800 billion VND. Of which, the central budget accounts for nearly 711 billion VND, the local budget is nearly 4,425 billion VND, and the social mobilization budget is more than 2,695 billion VND.

Some localities have spent a large amount of money to give Tet gifts, such as: Hanoi supported 2.27 million beneficiaries with a total budget of over VND 1,067 billion; Ho Chi Minh City gave gifts to more than 1.33 million beneficiaries, with a total budget of VND 1,295 billion; Thanh Hoa supported more than 1.23 million beneficiaries, with a total budget of over VND 386 billion...
Regarding the work of taking care of Tet for people with revolutionary contributions, on November 27, 2024, the President issued Decision No. 1301/QD-CTN on giving gifts to a number of people with revolutionary contributions on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025.
According to the Decision, the President will give gifts to more than 1.6 million beneficiaries, with a total budget of over VND506.75 billion. The gift amount is divided into two levels, VND600,000 and VND300,000, depending on each specific beneficiary.
Local authorities at all levels also actively and proactively arrange budgets or mobilize social resources to give Tet gifts to people with revolutionary contributions.
Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City has given gifts to 398,000 beneficiaries, with a total cost of over 453 billion VND; Hanoi has given gifts to 297,000 beneficiaries, with a total cost of over 244 billion VND; Hai Phong has given gifts to 157,000 beneficiaries, with a total cost of 289 billion VND...
The total budget for supporting and giving Tet gifts to people with revolutionary contributions and their relatives during the Lunar New Year 2025 is about 2,804 billion VND, an increase of 59 billion VND compared to the Lunar New Year 2024.
Regarding Tet support for social welfare beneficiaries, poor households and children in special circumstances, localities have developed plans to implement Tet care activities with many rich and diverse forms.
The level of support from the local budget is commonly between 300,000-500,000 VND/person. In particular, some localities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hue, Binh Thuan, Binh Duong... have higher support levels, ranging from 500,000 VND to 1,500,000 VND/person.
Compared to 2024, the support level for the Lunar New Year of At Ty in 2025 will increase by an average of 10-15%. Some localities have proactively arranged their budgets to increase the support level, helping people have a fuller and warmer Tet.
Timely payment of support and subsidies
Regarding the work of supporting rice for famine relief during Tet and the 2025 crop gap, as of January 31, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has coordinated with the Ministry of Finance to review, appraise and submit to the Prime Minister for issuance 5 decisions to support over 6,876 tons of rice for famine relief.
This amount of rice is distributed to 104,315 households with a total of 458,401 people who are facing difficulties during the Lunar New Year and the crop gap in early 2025.
Supported localities include: Gia Lai, Ninh Thuan, Cao Bang, Dak Lak, Kon Tum, Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Dak Nong, Tuyen Quang and Soc Trang.
In addition to support from the Central Government, localities also proactively develop plans, arrange local budgets and mobilize social resources to support rice for poor and near-poor households and people in difficult circumstances.

Up to now, the rice distribution has been completed, ensuring that everyone receives rice in time to welcome the New Year, and no one goes hungry during Tet.
Along with that, responding to the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025", many localities have actively implemented support programs, bringing about clear results.
Specifically, in the housing support program for people with revolutionary contributions, 6,962 houses have been deployed, of which 3,166 have been completed and put into use, and 3,796 are in the construction phase.
In addition, the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has supported the construction of 35,466 houses, with 18,841 houses completed and 16,625 houses under construction.
Localities have implemented many meaningful activities to support and care for people in difficult circumstances during Tet. Specifically, 3.8 million people under social protection, poor and near-poor households have received Tet gifts, while more than 1 million elderly people have had longevity celebrations.
According to the report of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of 63 provinces and cities, over 1 million elderly people were congratulated and received Tet gifts with a total cost of more than 676 billion VND.
About 315,000 children in special circumstances and poor children were visited and given gifts with a total cost of more than 145 billion VND.
Nearly 1.19 million poor and near-poor households received Tet gifts worth more than VND740 billion. Nearly 1.2 million social protection beneficiaries received Tet gifts worth nearly VND862 billion.
The payment of social allowances to beneficiaries was also carried out fully, promptly, and in accordance with regulations, ensuring that there were no errors or delays. In particular, the allowances for January and February were paid in the same period as January.
