On February 3, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs informed about the social security situation during the Lunar New Year 2025. Accordingly, over 1.48 million poor and near-poor households were supported and given Tet gifts with a total value of over 786 billion VND.
Implementing the Directive of the Secretariat and the Prime Minister on ensuring that all people have a joyful, safe, healthy, economical, enthusiastic and motivated Tet holiday, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has determined to implement the motto "Everyone has Tet, every family has Tet". According to the report of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the whole country is currently supporting and giving Tet gifts to more than 13.5 million beneficiaries, with a total budget of more than 7,943 billion VND (an increase of 181 billion VND compared to 2024); of which the central budget is nearly 711 billion VND, the local budget is nearly 4,452 billion VND, and the social mobilization budget is more than 2,779 billion VND.
The President has decided to present gifts to more than 1.66 million people with revolutionary contributions and relatives of martyrs with a total budget of more than 506.75 billion VND. The total budget sources from the central and local governments and social mobilization funds to support and present Tet gifts to people with revolutionary contributions and relatives of those with revolutionary contributions is about 2,804 billion VND, an increase of 59 billion VND compared to the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin in 2024.
Regarding the support of rice for famine relief, as of February 2, 2025, the Prime Minister issued 5 decisions to support a total of over 6,876 tons of rice for famine relief for 104,315 households with 458,401 hungry people during the Lunar New Year and the early 2025 crop gap in 10 provinces. Currently, localities have finished distributing rice to people to welcome the New Year, ensuring that no one will go hungry during the Lunar New Year of At Ty in 2025.
The work of supporting social protection beneficiaries, poor households and children in special circumstances has been focused on implementation. Localities have developed plans to implement Tet care activities for policy beneficiaries in many rich and diverse forms. Over 1.1 million elderly people were wished longevity and given Tet gifts with a total value of over 673 billion VND. About over 445 thousand children in special circumstances, poor children... were visited and given Tet gifts with a total cost of over 196 billion VND. Along with that, over 1.48 million poor and near-poor households were supported and given Tet gifts with a total value of over 786 billion VND; gifts were given to over 1.3 million social protection beneficiaries with a total value of over 918 billion VND.
Localities have actively responded to the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025", achieving positive results. Many people have been supported to celebrate Tet in new houses with over 22,000 houses inaugurated and nearly 20,500 houses under construction (including 6,962 houses for people with revolutionary contributions).
