SWEET FRUITS
At the recently concluded Southeast Asian Championship, the Vietnamese futsal team introduced two completely new faces: pivo Nguyen Da Hai (19 years old) and ala Vu Ngoc Anh (20 years old). The confrontation with the extremely strong opponent Indonesia was the first time this very young duo competed in the final match of a major tournament. Both played extremely passionately and steadily, causing many storms in the opponent's goal. After 5 matches in the Southeast Asian tournament, Da Hai had 3 goals and Ngoc Anh had 1. This was a successful tournament for these two young players.

Coach Giustozzi certainly deserves praise for courageously giving opportunities to players in their U.20s. And the efforts of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) also need to be recognized. Why? Looking back at the progress of Da Hai and Ngoc Anh, you will have the answer. Before being called up to the Vietnam national team, these two players helped Thai Son Bac Club win the runner-up position in the national championship and the 2024 U.20 National Championship. And to be present in the Thai Son Bac first team, they also performed well in the journey to win the runner-up position in the 2023 U.20 National Championship.
Vietnam futsal team won runner-up
The fact that VFF started organizing the national U.20 tournament for futsal from 2023 has helped young talents have more playgrounds to hone and improve. From there, clubs have more sources of quality players to renew their squads. In addition to Da Hai and Ngoc Anh, many promising young players have gradually come to light such as Cao Hoai An and Luu Thanh Bao. Among them, Thanh Bao was once sent by coach Giustozzi to train in South America with the Vietnamese futsal team. In the near future, VFF needs to maintain and develop youth tournaments more strongly so that cases like Da Hai and Ngoc Anh can appear more often.
ISSUES NEEDING IMPROVEMENT
Besides the positive signals from the young players, the Vietnamese futsal team also has some worrying points. In many recent major tournaments, the fixos of the Vietnamese futsal team often struggled to keep up with the high-class pivos. We can clearly see how Soumilena of the Indonesian futsal team made Pham Van Tu's goal wobble in the final match of the recent Southeast Asian futsal tournament. The main reason is that players like Gia Hung, Manh Dung, Cong Vien... do not often encounter excellent pivos in the national championship.
We almost only have Thinh Phat as a high-quality pivo. Da Hai has potential, but still has a lot to improve. Meanwhile, Minh Tri still has no return date, Duc Tung is regaining his peak form, and Dac Huy has retired due to too many injuries.
Vietnamese clubs are now allowed to use foreign players. However, finances are an obstacle that makes teams only use domestic players, or do not have quality foreign players. For example, Sahako Club could not keep Italo Henrique, who scored 9 goals in the 2023 national championship (only 1 goal behind the top scorer). This season, Sahako also used foreign players but they were not as good as Italo. Even Thai Son Nam and Thai Son Bac clubs do not have high-class foreign players in their squads.
The face of a futsal is the achievements of the national team. If we want the national team to have good achievements, futsal must develop steadily, based on developing youth training and raising the level of the national championship. That is what Indonesian futsal has done in the past few years and we need to learn.
