According to plan, the Vietnam national team and U22 Vietnam will have their first gathering in 2025 on March 11, on the occasion of FIFA Days in March.

The Vietnamese team is preparing for a friendly match with Cambodia (March 19) and the opening match of the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup against Laos (March 25) in Binh Duong.

The Vietnam U22 team also trained together with the Vietnam national team in the early days before going to China to participate in the CFA Team China 2025 International U22 Tournament in Yancheng (Jiangsu).

According to the newly announced match schedule of host China, the U22 Vietnam team will meet U22 Korea (March 20), U22 Uzbekistan (March 23) and U22 China (March 25).

These are all three strong teams in the continent, so it will be an important opportunity for the Vietnam U22 team to prepare for the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers in September and the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand at the end of this year. Because the two teams Vietnam and U22 Vietnam trained at the same time and had their own matches during FIFA Days in March, coach Kim Sang Sik was forced to choose an interim head coach to lead the young players competing in China.

On March 2, the Korean coach will meet with the Vietnamese coaching staff before making a decision.

At the 2024 CFA Team China International U22 Tournament in Hunan, coach Kim Sang Sik chose assistant Dinh Hong Vinh as acting head coach of the Vietnam U22 team, because he was busy leading the Vietnam team to compete in the 2024 LPBank Cup Friendly Tournament at My Dinh Stadium (Hanoi).

The Vietnam U22 team, under the leadership of acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh, finished third overall after beating U22 Malaysia 2-1, losing to U22 Uzbekistan 0-2 and U22 China 1-2.
