Central Vietnam tourism seeks organic values

According to businesses in the industry, the serious decline in tourism activities in recent times requires a turnaround, from management and support agencies to investors themselves. The once bustling tourist area of ​​Da Nang has now had to admit a severe "decline", which is unacceptable to anyone. Hue and Hoi An are also impressive tourist destinations, the number of visitors is still maintained, but activities are all "negative", many businesses said "no profit for many months".

  Turn around with new products?

The leaders of the Da Nang Department of Tourism acknowledged that there are many reasons for the decline in tourism activities, from objective reasons due to the economic context to subjective reasons due to businesses not improving their products... However, importantly, the local tourism industry itself must review its investment capacity, how services have been organized, whether they have attracted tourists sustainably and whether they have created products with organic value. The answer received is, in fact, "no". Therefore, in order to revive its activities, Da Nang tourism must accept quality improvement, invest in new products, targeting the needs of tourists but in harmony with the context and local capabilities.

Mr. Le Tan Thanh Tung, representative of Vitraco brand, one of the travel agencies currently operating in Da Nang, shared that the agency is expanding and coordinating with many other businesses, especially associations, professional clubs, etc. and local tourism departments to build better quality tours, and find tourists with the right strengths to serve better. In response to this effort, local authorities are also very attentive, and make efforts to cooperate and find solutions with businesses.

Many policies to improve the quality and better train tourism human resources such as tour guides, reinvest in the operation of accommodation and travel establishments, etc. are being proposed by the Da Nang Department of Tourism. Recently, this department, in coordination with the Thua Thien Hue Department of Tourism and the General Department of Railways, launched a pair of trains to serve tourists traveling between the two localities every day, which is an interesting solution to invest in better quality tourism infrastructure. The locality also reviewed and could move towards reorganizing some tourist destinations and commercial service experiences such as night markets and walking streets in the area, to further improve service quality.

These moves are creating a good premise for the Da Nang tourism industry to turn around its operations and attract tourists back. Next to Da Nang, the ancient capital of Hue with traditional Ao Dai scenarios, renovation of cultural exchange destinations in the Citadel, private museums... Hoi An ancient town has set higher quality criteria in serving tourists with field experiences, re-evaluating museums, building living spaces for local residents to attract tourists...

Organic value will decide!

In the context of “changing together, finding solutions together” in local tourism, a major problem can be recognized: “For a long time, the hot and massive development of tourism in the Central provinces has covered up serious shortcomings, which is the lack of products with organic and attractive values”. This comment, made by a representative of the Quang Nam Tourism Association, is to note the attention and improvement of the situation from management agencies and businesses investing in tourism.

This representative cited, for example, Hoi An tourism, which has not been able to create new tours for many years, still only letting tourists walk around the old town area, without any attractive performances, destinations such as museums, ancient houses... are all deserted, without any exciting activities. Tourists coming to Da Nang, can only freely wander around Ba Na Hills, go down to Han market, cross Dragon bridge... but do not experience any attractive products or program scripts. A notable destination such as Dien Hai citadel, which is highly promoted by Da Nang, but the organization inside is poor, there are no tour guides, the campus is shabby... making tourists completely disappointed.

“Journey through Vietnamese cuisine” contributes to promoting the value of the country's culinary culture, attracting tourists.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh, General Director of Bac My An Resort (Furama), said that in order to renew itself, in recent years, the enterprise has implemented many investment plans, improving quality and services. From 2024, Furama, together with the Da Nang Culinary Culture Association and the Da Nang Hotel Association, invited artisans to build the program "Journey through Vietnamese cuisine" to promote the value of the country's culinary culture, making it a choice to attract tourists.

Surprisingly, this choice of the business coincides with the viewpoint of revitalizing and finding the organic value of promoting tourism of all three localities: Hue, Da Nang and Quang Nam. From there, a series of activities have been formed that resonate with each other of the localities, building together, hoping to recreate the basic, unique quality values ​​of local cuisine, in order to attract and serve tourists to come or return.

According to Mr. Quynh, choosing such organic values ​​for tourism is really necessary to gradually change the current context, re-create operating opportunities for investment businesses as well as open better competitive doors for Vietnamese tourism on the regional tourism map. The worrying thing is that after a long period of mass tourism, Central Vietnam tourism has only now regained its true self, so it may have to "pay a high price" for recovery!
