Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung has just signed a decision approving the Project to Adjust the General Planning of Hoi An City for the period up to 2035 and the period up to 2050.
Accordingly, Hoi An will be expanded and developed on a total area of about 6,354.83 hectares, including both mainland and islands. The city will be planned into 7 main functional areas, including: historical heritage urban area, island urban area associated with cultural - service center, urban and rural area associated with river landscape, new urban and rural development area, urban service area of sea gateway, residential area associated with biosphere conservation and island ecological residential area.
From now until 2035, Hoi An will focus on developing a sustainable, climate-resilient urban area; exploiting and promoting potentials and advantages to meet investment requirements, preserving and developing to promote historical and cultural values, promoting the integration process, linking regional and area development, creating a premise for green growth and reducing emissions.
By 2050, Hoi An city, with the nature of a sustainable "Ecology - Culture - Tourism" urban area, rich in the identity of the province and the country, will become a smart city, synchronously connected with the smart urban area of Quang Nam province (Hoi An - Dien Ban - Tam Ky - Nui Thanh) and the whole country.
During the planning process, Quang Nam requires preserving Hoi An's unique, diverse and dynamic water surface space; promoting Hoi An as a city of living heritage; improving the overload situation and developing more sustainably.
Orienting urban development to the West (in Thanh Ha ward, Cam Ha commune), taking advantage of internal and external traffic accessibility, good connection with Dien Ban town, Da Nang city. Taking advantage of available land fund, high current ground level and less affected by natural disasters. Supplementing social housing land fund in the West of the city...

To realize the functional subdivisions according to the planning, Hoi An city will relocate production facilities with the risk of pollution out of residential areas and residential areas to concentrate production in Thanh Ha Industrial Park. Continue to complete the infrastructure and plant isolated trees to help green the area and ensure environmental sanitation.
At the same time, encourage clean production facilities with low environmental impact, production enterprises with linkages, participating in product value chains, and linking with local raw material areas. Orientation to continue developing light industries such as textiles, footwear, handicrafts, electronics assembly, etc. associated with the context of art and culture as well as local culture and craft techniques.
Focus on developing value chain-linked production, including Cam Thanh organic vegetables, VietGap Tra Que vegetables (Cam Ha commune), Cam Kim organic agriculture, Cu Lao Cham specialty products and Thanh Tay organic agriculture (Cam Chau ward) associated with processing and consumption of organic agricultural products in new rural communes in the city.
The Cu Lao Cham World Biosphere Reserve must be preserved and the value of the raw material forest area must be promoted; native trees and precious timber trees must be planted in conjunction with the protection of upstream forests and the formation of forest parks... Replicating the project of planting, restoring and conserving nipa palm forests at the Bay Mau coconut forest relic site, planting new ones along rivers and canals and combining them with the aquaculture pond system.
The goal is to ensure that Hoi An develops according to the structure of “Garden in the city - city in the garden”. The preservation of characteristic structures in 4 areas including the existing urban core area, the new urban and rural development area, the river delta conservation area and the island conservation area.
