(CLO) On the evening of December 25, at the Military Radio and Television Center, Hanoi, The World and Vietnam Newspaper - the press agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 35th anniversary of its first issue (November 29, 1989 - November 29, 2024).

In his speech at the ceremony, journalist Nguyen Truong Son, Editor-in-Chief of The World and Vietnam Newspaper, said: 35 years ago, on November 29, 1989, in the first vibrant years of the Doi Moi process, the International Relations Journal - the predecessor of The World and Vietnam Newspaper published its first issue. In the journey to fulfill its initial mission of "serving the Doi Moi process, introducing the world's movements, demonstrating the country's reform and open-door thinking, up to now, the International Relations Journal has undergone three name changes, from International Weekly, International Newspaper and now The World and Vietnam Newspaper.
Regardless of the name, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' foreign journalists remain steadfast and persistent in their goals and principles, constantly striving and innovating, making the newspaper one of Vietnam's leading foreign press agencies, with its own brand and identity.
Over the past 35 years, generations of cadres, reporters, editors and staff of the Newspaper have made continuous efforts to build an important information channel, contributing to promoting the image of the country and Vietnamese people to the world, providing readers with hot, accurate and vivid information about Vietnam's foreign affairs activities, the domestic situation as well as developments in the regional and world situations.
In the digital age, The World and Vietnam Newspaper strives to grasp the development trends of the media, apply modern technology, and create its own mark in the products of the Newspaper. From a monthly magazine, the Newspaper has now built an ecosystem with printed newspapers, non-periodical publications, electronic newspapers in Vietnamese and English, and social networking platforms. The Newspaper is regularly on the list of electronic newspapers with the highest spread according to weekly statistics of the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association congratulated and highly appreciated the outstanding achievements of The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspaper in its 35 years of operation. He affirmed that this is one of the industry newspapers with remarkable development, truly the voice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and an important part of the Vietnamese revolutionary press.

Emphasizing that the country's press is facing many intertwined challenges and opportunities, comrade Le Quoc Minh suggested that The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspaper continue to convey Vietnamese information to the world and vice versa, update the world's information to domestic readers. Nhan Dan Newspaper, the Central Propaganda Department, the Vietnam Journalists Association and relevant agencies will always accompany and support The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspaper in terms of ideology, orientation and technology so that the Newspaper can operate more effectively in the future.
Attending and speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized: “With modest resources, the Newspaper not only maintains a quality printed newspaper with in-depth foreign policy articles, but also creates an online newspaper in Vietnamese and English that is confident enough to stand shoulder to shoulder with many famous newspapers that have long been established. Along with that are professional non-periodical publications with their own identity and mark.”
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang said that as the only newspaper of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The World and Vietnam Newspaper needs to have corresponding changes, both accompanying and contributing to the common work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and completing its own tasks, making the newspaper increasingly popular domestically and internationally. In particular, the Newspaper needs to continue the slogan of "constant innovation", not only in traditional publications but also expanding to new media and modern media.
On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the first issue, The World and Vietnam Newspaper was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Central Propaganda Department for its outstanding achievements in foreign information and propaganda work in recent times. In addition, many individuals who are cadres, reporters and editors of the Newspaper were awarded a certificate of merit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a commemorative medal from the Vietnam Journalists Association.
