The online community commented that the prices on the Temu e-commerce platform are not cheap, and many users have expressed doubts about the product quality.
Just 2 weeks after the news of the e-commerce platform Temu “landing” in Vietnam, Temu has become a hot topic of discussion on social networks. Despite creating a big buzz at first, the first experiences of consumers are currently mostly not very positive for Temu. The results were compiled by the social media monitoring platform SocialHeat of YouNet Media Company.
Users speak out to warn "not easy to eat"
According to data from SocialHeat, from September 25 to October 25, the discussion topic about the Temu platform attracted more than 410 thousand interactions from more than 7.1 thousand posts and 36.85 thousand discussions on social networking platforms in Vietnam.

In particular, on October 22, 2024, Temu attracted attention when it launched an affiliate marketing program for users in Vietnam, opening up new opportunities for content creators and sellers to earn extra income. This event caused the number of discussions about Temu to skyrocket by more than 400%, recording an average of 51.3 thousand interactions and 4.5 thousand discussions per day for three days from October 22 to 24.
“Affiliate” is the most mentioned keyword on social networks about Temu. YouNet Media recorded that out of every 10 discussions from September 25 to October 25, 2 were related to Temu’s affiliate marketing program. Many social network users consider this one of the new money-making waves. Particularly attracting interactions are posts boasting about the amount of money earned on Temu, up to hundreds of millions of VND.
However, on the other hand, many users have warned that this opportunity is not "easy to get". Others are concerned about the fact that the platform is operating unofficially. Typically, some comments that have received a lot of interaction are: "Temu is a multi-level marketing model. Introduce people and then take a percentage from the next person", "Temu does not say whether you can withdraw money or not"...
The price on Temu is higher than Shopee
Besides the affiliate marketing program, the shopping experience on Temu has not really satisfied Vietnamese consumers.
According to data recorded by YouNet Media, many consumers have frankly posted comments that the prices on Temu are not cheap, even higher than Shopee (accounting for 11% of the discussion). Some typical comments are: "Looking at the price, it's not cheap :))" "Too expensive but calling it cheap, Shopee is still the cheapest", "Buying it is 10 times more expensive than Shopee"...
At the same time, the quality of products sold on Temu is also questioned by many users (accounting for 5% of discussions).
In addition to quality issues, users also complained about Temu's shipping and return services, saying that delivery times are slow and the return process is complicated. The policy of not supporting cash on delivery is also a big minus point, with nearly 5% of discussions expressing concerns about account security risks when providing credit card information.
According to the latest data from YouNet ECI, Vietnamese consumers spent VND87,370 billion on shopping on four major e-commerce platforms in the second quarter. Of which, Shopee almost dominated the market with 71.4%, followed by TikTok Shop with 22%, Lazada with 5.9%.
Judging from the current feedback, Temu is facing many challenges in gaining the trust of Vietnamese consumers. While many users are excited about the opportunities offered by the affiliate marketing program, the majority of feedback still questions the transparency and quality of products on the platform.
According to information from the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Temu is a cross-border e-commerce platform with Vietnamese language and is subject to Decree No. 52/2013/ND-CP dated May 16, 2013 of the Government on e-commerce (amended and supplemented by Decree No. 85/2021/ND-CP). On October 24, 2024, Temu sent an official document to the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy regarding the implementation of requirements for compliance with Vietnamese e-commerce laws when entering the market. |
