Upon admission to the hospital, the patient was examined by the on-call team and had a scrotal doppler ultrasound which revealed a ruptured left testicle and indicated for exploratory surgery. During surgery, it was noted that the left testicle was ruptured in two, with surrounding blood clots. All blood clots were removed, the tunica albuginea was sutured, the testicle was preserved and drained. After 5 days of treatment, the patient fully recovered and was discharged from the hospital.
How dangerous is a ruptured testicle in men?
According to doctors, testicular rupture is a male medical emergency that occurs when the sheath surrounding the testicle is torn, usually due to direct impact on the scrotum. The rate of scrotal trauma is relatively rare (usually less than 1% of trauma cases), in which trauma due to impact accounts for 50% of scrotal trauma cases, often due to causes such as playing sports, motorbike accidents, daily activities, etc.
Testicular rupture, if not diagnosed and treated promptly, can lead to serious complications: testicular atrophy, infection, and possibly testicular removal if severe, affecting reproductive function and overall health of men, so patients need to go to the hospital for examination and early treatment when injured.
To reduce the risk of testicular rupture, men should take preventive measures such as: Using protective equipment such as athletic cups and jockstraps when participating in sports with high risk of collision, being careful in daily activities to avoid activities that can cause scrotal injury.
