GĐXH – After a hard fall, Ms. Y suffered a serious injury, severe pain in her back spine, and loss of mobility, so her family took her to the emergency room.

Information from the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases said that recently, doctors received and treated a patient with serious spinal injury due to an accident.

Accordingly, patient NTHY (30 years old, Hanoi) was hospitalized with severe spinal pain and complete loss of mobility after falling from a height of 4m. Her family immediately immobilized her spine with a vest and took her to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

At the Emergency Department, Ms. Y. was clinically examined and found to have a 2 cm long open wound in the middle third of the front of her left leg, back pain and complete loss of movement. X-ray and CT results showed that Ms. Y. had a collapsed L1 vertebra and a fracture of the posterior spine of the T12 vertebra.

Given the severity of the injury, doctors from the Department of Trauma Surgery and Spinal Neurology consulted and decided to perform surgery using percutaneous screw fixation.

BSCKII Nguyen Thanh Tung, Deputy Head of the Department of Trauma Surgery and Spinal Neurology, said: Percutaneous screw surgery is a minimally invasive technique, with a small incision, less soft tissue damage and blood loss than traditional surgery. Patients will have less pain after surgery, reduce the risk of infection and shorten recovery time. The aesthetics of this method are also higher when the small incision helps limit scarring and the risk of infection.

According to Dr. Tung, thanks to the support of modern technology during the surgery such as operating room X-ray machines and C-arm positioning systems, doctors can determine the exact screw position, improving treatment efficiency and minimizing risks.

Percutaneous screw placement is a minimally invasive technique, with small incisions, less soft tissue damage, and less blood loss than traditional surgery.

Nowadays, this method is increasingly widely applied in large hospitals, opening up more advanced treatment opportunities for patients with spinal diseases. The application of minimally invasive techniques not only helps improve the quality of treatment but also significantly improves the lives of patients, helping them quickly return to work and daily activities.

For patient Y, after 7 days of treatment, the patient was able to move lightly, was discharged from the hospital, continued rehabilitation at home and had follow-up visits as scheduled by the doctor.
