At the invitation of the State of Japan, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vo Van Thuong and his wife will pay an official visit to Japan from November 27-30.

This will be President Vo Van Thuong's first visit to Japan. The visit takes place on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Japan is Vietnam's leading economic partner and the first G7 country to recognize Vietnam's market economy status (October 2011). It is also the largest ODA donor, the second largest labor cooperation partner, the third largest investor and tourism partner, and the fourth largest trade partner of Vietnam.

"In the context of the Vietnam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership developing strongly and comprehensively, and on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan relations, we believe that the visit of President Vo Van Thuong will contribute to further deepening the Vietnam-Japan relationship, bringing the bilateral relationship to a new height, substantive, effective and long-term in all fields, for peace, stability, and development of each country as well as in the region and the world," Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang told reporters about the visit at a press conference on November 15.
