Stepping out of tradition, firmly on a scientific foundation
Absorbing folk knowledge from her family and community, Kha Hanh chose to pursue a formal study of Traditional Medicine at Le Huu Trac School of Medicine and Pharmacy. Graduating with honors, she has a solid scientific foundation to further research on Northwestern medicinal herbs. Hanh does not want to simply work in the traditional way but aspires to bring the medicinal recipes of the Thai, Mong, Dao people... to a new level, more accessible to modern consumers.
From the knowledge she learned, she started researching and developing products such as Polygonum multiflorum honey sesame pills, Turmeric and Tea vine pills - familiar medicinal herbs to people in the highlands, but processed in a convenient form, suitable for today's busy life.
Bringing Northwest products far and wide thanks to digital platforms
Realizing that good production but lack of distribution channels will limit output, Kha Hanh boldly entered the digital platform, building the Tay Bac TV brand on TikTok, Facebook, Zalo to both do business and spread knowledge of medicinal herbs.
On TikTok, videos sharing about Polygonum multiflorum and Turmeric attract hundreds of thousands of views. Not only promoting the products, Kha Hanh tells stories about the Northwestern grandmother and mother who diligently prepare medicine, about medicinal plants growing precariously on the mountainside, making the products imbued with the breath of highland culture.
Preserving indigenous resources, creating sustainable livelihoods
Not stopping at developing her personal brand, Kha Hanh also aims to support her fellow countrymen. She cooperates with local households, instructing them to cultivate medicinal herbs using clean processes, ensuring quality and limiting spontaneous exploitation that causes resource depletion. Instead of destroying precious medicinal herbs, people are instructed to harvest them using sustainable methods, helping to preserve the forest ecosystem and maintain long-term medicinal herb resources.
In addition, Kha Hanh has organized many training sessions, guiding people to use smartphones, record videos and livestream to introduce products. Thanks to that, many households can proactively promote their hometown specialties, increase income and improve their lives.
The journey continues - Preserving the quintessence, reaching out with the times
A girl from the Northwest who came from the highland markets, Kha Hanh has now become a successful young entrepreneur on the digital platform, contributing to bringing her hometown products to a wide range of consumers. But for her, this is just the beginning. She continues to research new products, looking for more creative marketing methods to spread the value of Northwest medicinal herbs.
“I have always believed that a nation’s culture is not only in its costumes and festivals, but also in what they eat, what they drink, and what medicines they use to take care of their health. If I can contribute to preserving those values and help them survive in a more modern way, I think I am on the right track,” she shared.
With her tireless efforts, she not only helps Northwest specialties reach a large market but also creates sustainable economic opportunities for highland women and small-scale producers. With her perseverance and creativity, Kha Hanh not only preserves a part of the Northwest heritage but also opens a new direction, helping traditional values reach further in the digital age.
