New cycle of opportunities from the convergence of semiconductors and artificial intelligence - AI

NDO - On March 13, the workshop "Convergence of semiconductors and artificial intelligence: A breakthrough factor creating a new cycle of opportunities" took place in Hanoi. This event is part of the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductors (AISC) 2025, organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC) and Aitomatic (USA).

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Mai Duong, Director of the Department of Innovation, Ministry of Science and Technology said: Recognizing the opportunities and potential of science, technology and innovation for the country's development in the New Era, Vietnam has had many policies to promote this field.

On December 22, 2024, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.

In order to institutionalize the policies of the Party and Government, especially Resolution 57, the Ministry of Science and Technology is urgently completing the Draft Amendment to the Law on Science and Technology with many breakthrough mechanisms and policies to strongly promote innovation activities.

The draft law will issue new policies through specific regulations, creating a legal basis for rapid and sustainable development of science and technology, keeping up with the development of the world. At the same time, the scope and subjects of regulation of the Law will be expanded to the non-public sector to promote scientific research, technology development and innovation, contributing increasingly effectively to socio-economic development, contributing to the industrialization and modernization of the country.

Vietnam is gradually affirming its position as an attractive destination for the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industries. The Ministry of Science and Technology is committed to working with businesses, experts, and scientists to build a dynamic innovation ecosystem, helping Vietnam not only participate but also create value in the technology game of the future.

Believing that the AISC 2025 Conference is not only an opportunity for knowledge exchange, but also an important foundation for building strategic cooperative relationships between Vietnam and the international community, Mr. Nguyen Mai Duong also expressed his hope that the conference will be an opportunity for all parties to share experiences, explore new cooperation opportunities and promote breakthrough initiatives to bring AI and semiconductor technology to a new level.

AISC 2025 includes a series of events on the latest information in the semiconductor and AI industry, taking place from March 12-16, 2025 in Hanoi and Da Nang with exhibitions, seminars, business connections..., expected to attract more than 1,000 leaders, scientists, and leading technology experts in the world to attend.

During a series of seminars held on March 12 and 13, delegates discussed the groundbreaking opportunities that AI and semiconductor technology bring.

Sharing about how AI and semiconductors have changed every industry and the breakthrough of businesses, Mr. Daniel Weyl, Senior Vice President of Automotive, NXP emphasized the strong transformation of the automotive industry, from a hardware-based industry to an increasingly software-dependent field.

In the past, a car had only a few simple electronic control units (ECUs), but today, the number of ECUs can reach hundreds and is moving towards a Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) model.

One of the key factors driving the growth of SDVs is AI, through improvements ranging from autonomous driving systems to performance optimization and enhanced user experience.

Instead of relying on traditional control models, AI can learn and adapt to real-world situations, thereby improving safety and operational efficiency….

The automotive industry is going through a phase where software and AI will reshape the way we design and operate vehicles, says Daniel Weyl. In the future, AI systems will enable self-driving cars to optimize every aspect of the user experience, from energy management to personalized services. This will require massive investments in data, open software platforms, and more flexible vehicle architectures.

Furuno - one of the leading enterprises in the Japanese maritime industry brought to the workshop experiences in applying AI to solve existing challenges in this industry.

Ms. Mika Tanaka, a company representative, said that one of Furuno's outstanding projects is to cooperate with AIRMATIC to deploy an AI system to support maritime operations.

The system includes a variety of specialized AI agents, from processing compliance documents and crew training to navigation and safety monitoring, and modern ships collect more than 20GB of data every day on engines, cargo, and weather – a workload that would be too large to analyze manually.

It is evident that AI has solved major challenges facing the industry, including complex regulations, labor shortages, data overload from new technologies, and increasing demands for safety.

With the ability to combine general intelligence, specialized knowledge and operational processes, AI has improved operational efficiency, ensured safety and helped the maritime industry adapt to new requirements of the digital age, thereby contributing to building a safer, smarter and more sustainable industry.
