Google Photos is getting an option to skip RAW photo backups
RAW photos are known for their superior image quality and are always the first choice of photography enthusiasts. However, the 'huge' size of this image format is a burden on Google Photos storage space, which is not free.
With the new feature, users will be able to choose to only back up JPEG or HEIF format photos, which are much smaller in size, freeing up significant storage space.
This feature is especially useful for Samsung smartphone users, which can save photos in both RAW and JPEG/HEIF formats at the same time. Users can back up JPEG/HEIF photos to Google Photos for sharing, while keeping RAW photos on the device for professional editing.
Currently, the feature is spotted in the latest version of the Pixel Camera app. However, users are hoping that Google will soon expand the feature to other Android devices via a Google Photos or Google Play System update.
The feature to skip RAW photo backup promises to bring flexibility and significant space savings to Google Photos users, especially photography enthusiasts.
