The Ministry of Construction has just sent a report to the Prime Minister on assigning the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee as the governing body to research and implement the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh urban railway project.
According to the Ministry of Construction, this railway line is about 42km long, designed as a double track with a gauge of 1,435mm, a maximum speed of 120km/h and 20 stations, serving the transport of passengers in and out of Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai province to Long Thanh airport. The project has a total estimated investment of about 3.5 billion USD.

Currently, the project's pre-feasibility study report has been consulted by localities and is being finalized by the Ministry of Construction to submit to the National Assembly for approval of the investment policy in October 2025. In order to ensure consistency and synchronization in implementation, the Ministry of Construction has agreed to assign the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee as the project's governing body according to the provisions of the Law on Public Investment.
In case of being assigned responsibility, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will receive all existing research results to continue implementing investment preparation work. At the same time, the Ministry of Construction proposed to allow the addition of this railway line to the Ho Chi Minh City urban railway planning and proposed the Government to include the project in the approved list according to Resolution No. 188/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly.
As the specialized state management agency for transportation, the Ministry of Construction commits to closely coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to ensure the progress and effectiveness of project implementation.
