The conference aims to disseminate Vietnam's policies and laws on seas and islands. Enhance understanding of the position, role and importance of seas and oceans for socio-economic development and national defense.

At the same time, promote communication work, raise awareness of international cooperation, seas, oceans, and sustainable development of the marine economy.

At the conference, the reporters presented on the border situation and law enforcement work of the Border Guard on the border; introduced some contents on policies and laws on sea and islands in the current context.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Ho Hong Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Information and Communications, shared that the East Sea, with its important strategic significance, has always been a focus of military and legal complexity... Resolving challenges in the East Sea will require a multi-faceted foreign policy, regional cooperation efforts and a commitment to upholding international norms.

“The fluctuations in the East Sea directly affect the nation’s supreme interests, which are national security and sovereignty. Therefore, firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands is a long-term struggle, requiring the combination of the nation’s internal strength, international support, and importantly, ensuring the maintenance of peace and stability on the ground and compliance with international law,” said Mr. Hai.

According to the Deputy Director of the Legal Department, Vietnam persistently pursues the policy of fully respecting and implementing the provisions of international law in good faith, resolving disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, and promoting maritime cooperation based on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

At the same time, complete the national legal system on the sea with specific policies. Notably, in June 2024, at the 7th Session, the 15th National Assembly voted to pass Resolution No. 139 on the National Marine Spatial Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

"From the above policies and guidelines, the Ministry of Information and Communications, according to its assigned functions and tasks, issued Decision No. 300/QD-BTTTT dated March 12, 2024 on the plan to implement training and dissemination of legal policies on sea and island sovereignty in 2024 to promote propaganda work on the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland, " Mr. Ho Hong Hai emphasized.
